Two Bac Ninh farmers honoured for achievements during 40 years of Doi Moi

Updated: 10:17, 14/10/2026

BAC NINH - Two farmers from Bac Ninh have been honoured among 96 outstanding individuals nationwide at the 2026 “Outstanding Vietnamese Farmers in 40 Years of Doi Moi” awards ceremony.

The event was held on the evening of October 12 at the Viet-Soviet Friendship Labour Cultural Palace in Hanoi and organised by the Vietnam Farmers’ Union Central Committee.

Hoang Dinh Que, from Quynh Son residential area in Tan An Ward, and Nguyen Van Nam, from Thu Duong village in Nam Duong Commune, receive recognition as outstanding Vietnamese farmers.

The two honourees from Bac Ninh are Hoang Dinh Que, from Quynh Son residential area in Tan An Ward, and Nguyen Van Nam, from Thu Duong village in Nam Duong Commune.

Que is recognised for developing a high-tech, closed-loop circular farming model combining livestock production, aquaculture, earthworm farming and melon cultivation.

He started his business in 2008 with just 30 pigs. His farm has since expanded to five pig barns, with a capacity of 2,600-3,000 pigs per batch, and two commercial duck farms, each raising 16,000 ducks per batch.

In 2025, the farming model generated 24 billion VND (927,000 USD) in revenue and 12 billion VND in profit, providing jobs for 10-15 local workers.

Que was the only individual in Bac Ninh to receive the “Scientist of Farmers” title in 2026. He was also awarded the Third-Class Labour Order by the State President in 2025.

Nam, Director of the Nam The Chu rice noodle production and marketing cooperative, has helped modernise traditional craft production through technical innovation.

Established in 2007, the cooperative produced and marketed about 850 tonnes of rice noodles in 2025, providing regular employment for 185 workers. It also has two products certified under Vietnam’s One Commune One Product (OCOP) programme at the three-star level.

Nam personally researched and improved the cooperative’s rice noodle production line, replacing coal and firewood with gas as an energy source for the rice sheet steaming process. The innovation reduced the time required for each production batch from 90 minutes to 40 minutes.

The technology has since been transferred and applied to more than 27 production lines in Thu Duong craft village, helping improve production efficiency and modernise the traditional trade.

The recognition highlights the contributions of farmers who have promoted innovation, improved agricultural production and created jobs for local communities during Vietnam’s four decades of Doi Moi, or economic reform.
