Viet Nam futsal team claim bronze medal at ASEAN Futsal Championship
Displaying focus, efficiency, and composure in the third-place play-off, the Viet Nam national futsal team secured an emphatic 4-0 victory over Australia, concluding their campaign at the 2026 Southeast Asian Futsal Championship with a bronze medal.
From the opening whistle, the players under head coach Diego Giustozzi adopted a proactive approach, applying high pressing and quickly putting pressure on the opposition. In the third minute, from a corner situation, Nhan Gia Hung reacted swiftly inside the penalty area to open the scoring for Viet Nam.

After claiming an early lead, Viet Nam maintained their dominance. Several chances were created by Cong Dai, Thinh Phat, and Nguyen Da Hai, but Australian goalkeeper Feilich produced a series of noteworthy saves.
At the other end, Viet Nam’s defence remained solid, highlighted by a timely intervention from goalkeeper Pham Van Tu in the 17th minute.
Sustained pressure paid off with a second goal in the 18th minute. Following a skilful move by Nguyen Da Hai, Chau Doan Phat finished from close range to double the lead before half-time.
After the break, Viet Nam continued to demonstrate their efficiency in transition. In the 21st minute, from a quick attacking move, Thinh Phat surged forward and finished clinically to extend the lead to 3-0.
For the remainder of the match, Viet Nam controlled the tempo effectively while maintaining concentration against Australia’s power-play tactics. In the 39th minute, goalkeeper Pham Van Tu made his mark by scoring from his own half into an empty net as the opposition pushed forward, sealing a 4-0 victory.
With this result, Viet Nam secured the bronze medal at this year’s tournament. Amid the ongoing generational transition with many young players receiving opportunities, the achievement is seen as a positive sign reflecting the team’s progress and future potential in the development of Vietnamese futsal.
