Viet Nam Red Cross Society launches 2026 Humanitarian Month

Updated: 15:37, 30/04/2026

The Viet Nam Red Cross Society held a national-level launch of the 2026 Humanitarian Month under the theme “80 years – A journey of compassion for the community” on April 29, contributing to mobilising the strength of the whole society to support the poor and vulnerable, while reflecting Viet Nam’s active contributions to international humanitarian activities.

Speaking at the ceremony, Bui Thi Minh Hoai, Politburo member, Secretary of the Party Central Committee, and President of the Viet Nam Fatherland Front Central Committee, emphasised that humanitarian work should be regarded not only as social support but also as one of the key pillars of a modern social security system, helping to maintain socio-political stability, strengthen public trust, and ensure rapid and sustainable development.

It also represents a vivid expression of national cultural identity and a form of soft power in international relations.

Bui Thi Minh Hoai noted that during May, ministries, sectors, and localities will organise a range of meaningful and practical activities in response to Humanitarian Month, in connection with the 80th anniversary of the establishment of the Viet Nam Red Cross Society.

This is also the fifth year that the organisation has been assigned by the Party Central Committee’s Secretariat to take the lead in organising Humanitarian Month each May, gradually turning it into a nationwide activity with broad, humane, and sustainable impact.

In the coming period, she called on the Viet Nam Red Cross Society to take a more proactive role in advising on strategic orientations for humanitarian work, closely linking them with the modern social security system to ensure inclusiveness and sustainability; enhance professionalism in humanitarian activities; and strongly innovate resource mobilisation methods by building a modern humanitarian ecosystem that effectively connects the State, businesses, international organisations, and the community.

At the same time, the organisation was urged to accelerate digital transformation, ensure transparency and accountability, and proactively expand and elevate humanitarian diplomacy, participating more actively in international assistance activities, thereby enhancing Viet Nam’s position and image.

At the event, Do Thi Thu Thao, President of the Viet Nam Red Cross Society, stated that this year’s Humanitarian Month aims to mobilise 500 billion VND and receive 80,000 units of blood.

Within the framework of the launch ceremony, the organising committee received symbolic pledges of support and commitments from various organisations and units. As of the event date, total pledged contributions for the 2026 Humanitarian Month reached 620 billion VND.

The programme also featured practical activities such as voluntary blood donation, first-aid skills experiences, and a “Humanitarian Market”.

At the market, 500 support packages (each worth 1 million VND, including 500,000 VND in cash and shopping vouchers worth 500,000 VND) were presented to disadvantaged households.

Nationwide, Red Cross branches at all levels will simultaneously organise various practical activities, including “Humanitarian Festival”, “Humanitarian Market”, livelihood support, community healthcare, and the implementation of humanitarian projects in localities.

After five years of official implementation (2021–2025), Humanitarian Month achieved notable results, mobilising more than 3.182 trillion VND and supporting over 6.6 million disadvantaged people across the country.
