Updated: 14:59, 29/04/2026

BAC NINH – The Northern province of Bac Ninh is seeking to deepen cooperation with localities in Japan’s Mie prefecture in areas including high-tech manufacturing, investment, workforce training and cultural exchange.

A delegation led by Nguyen Hong Thai, Party Central Committee member and Secretary of the Bac Ninh Party Committee, held meetings with Mie officials on April 28 during a working visit to Japan aimed at expanding bilateral partnerships.

An overview of the meeting.

At a meeting with the delegation, Mie Vice Governor Kazuya Ushiroda said the prefecture hoped to soon establish formal cooperative relations with Bac Ninh to strengthen exchanges and business connectivity across multiple sectors.

Ushiroda said around 15,000 Vietnamese nationals are currently living and working in Mie, making them the largest foreign community in the prefecture and an important bridge for economic and cultural cooperation between Japan and Vietnam.

Kazuya Ushiroda, Vice Governor of Mie prefecture, expresses his hope for the early establishment of formal cooperative relations with Bac Ninh province to expand business connectivity and economic cooperation between the two localities.

He added that several Mie-based companies were exploring investment opportunities in Bac Ninh and called on the province to continue supporting Japanese businesses seeking to expand operations there.

The Bac Ninh provincial Party Chief Nguyen Hong Thai said the newly merged Bac Ninh province, formed in July 2025 through the consolidation of Bac Giang and Bac Ninh provinces, now has a population of more than 3.6 million and aims to become a centrally governed city before 2030.

The province, located near Hanoi, has maintained one of Vietnam’s fastest economic growth rates, posting growth of 10.27% in 2025, while continuing strong momentum in the first four months of 2026, he said.

Bac Ninh currently operates 39 industrial parks covering more than 11,000 hectares, with infrastructure ready to accommodate international investors.

He proposed that the two sides move toward signing a formal cooperation agreement and strengthen collaboration in high-tech manufacturing, smart urban development, trade, services, agricultural processing, technology transfer and education.

During the visit, another Bac Ninh delegation led by Standing Vice Chairman of provincial People’s Committee Mai Son met leaders of Tsu city, where officials said nearly 2,000 Vietnamese residents live and work, forming the city’s second-largest foreign community.

The delegation also visited Yamaguchi Shokai Co., Ltd., a Mie-based manufacturer specializing in firefighting, rescue and safety equipment, viewed as a potential partner for technical infrastructure and safety projects in Bac Ninh.
