Bac Ninh signs agreements to boost lychee consumption in 2026
BAC NINH - Bac Ninh province on April 28 signed a series of agreements aimed at promoting the sale and export of lychees during the 2026 harvest season, as authorities seek to expand overseas markets despite lower-than-expected output.
At a conference on lychee production and consumption, provincial officials said unfavorable weather conditions during the flowering period had reduced yields, with total output forecast at around 95,068 tonnes, or 59.5% of the original target.

The province currently has nearly 29,800 hectares of lychee cultivation. Of that, around 17,500 hectares meet VietGAP safety standards, while 255 hectares are certified under GlobalGAP standards for export markets. Organic production covers about 10 hectares.
Early-season harvesting is expected to begin on May 25, while the main crop season will start from June 10, officials said.
Authorities said Bac Ninh had intensified efforts to connect growers and exporters with domestic and international buyers, including companies such as Amway, Dragon Garden and Global Trading. Several firms have already signed procurement agreements with local producers.
However, officials warned the crop could still face risks from adverse weather, pests and diseases, including fruit cracking, stem borers and anthracnose disease.
Export procedures have also become more challenging due to stricter requirements on growing-area codes, packaging facilities and food safety standards imposed by importing countries.
Delegates at the conference called for stronger value-chain cooperation, expanded deep-processing capacity and greater access to new export markets including North America, the European Union, Japan and Thailand.
Provincial authorities also encouraged farmers to strictly follow regulations on pesticide use to ensure export compliance, while promoting digital trade and e-commerce platforms to reach global consumers directly.
During the event, local businesses, cooperatives and farmers signed cooperation agreements with logistics firms, supermarkets, wholesale markets and railway transport operators to support lychee distribution during the harvest season.
Vice Chairman of the provincial People’s Committee Pham Van Thinh said Bac Ninh aimed to further strengthen the lychee brand through tourism promotion and new processed products such as lychee tea and jelly, while expanding exports to markets including Australia and the Philippines.
