Vietnam crowned champions at AFF U23 Tournament after dramatic penalty shootout

After holding Indonesia to a 0-0 draw after 120 minutes of the final, Vietnam defeated their strong rivals 6-5 in a dramatic penalty shootout to win the 2023 Southeast Asian U23 Championship on August 26.
The competition between the two best young teams of the tournament took place attractively from the first minutes.

U23 Vietnam had a shot hitting the post. Then Quoc Viet took a penalty but it was saved by goalkeeper Ernando Ari of Indonesia.
On the U23 Indonesian side, Sananta took a direct free kick but it hit the crossbar of Van Chuan's goal.

After 120 minutes without goal, the final of the 2023 Southeast Asian U23 Championship had to be decided by a penalty shootout for the first time. After five successful turns, Van Chuan excellently blocked goalkeeper Ernando's shootout to help Vietnam be crowned champions.
