Yen Dung 220kV substation targeted for November commissioning
BAC NINH - The Yen Dung 220kV substation and connecting transmission lines are targeted to be commissioned in November 2026, two months ahead of schedule, as Vietnam steps up investment in power infrastructure to meet growing industrial demand.
The project, located in Canh Thuy ward, is being developed by the National Power Transmission Corporation (EVNNPT) with an estimated investment of 486.7 billion VND (18.9 million USD).

It includes a substation equipped with two 220kV transformers, each with a capacity of 250 MVA, a 0.11-km double-circuit 220kV transmission line connecting to the existing Pha Lai - Quang Chau line, and a 1-km 35kV line supplying the substation's auxiliary power needs.
Land clearance for the substation and connecting 220kV transmission lines has been completed. Major construction items, including site levelling, the control building, pump house, equipment foundations, steel structures, bus supports and perimeter fencing, are mostly finished.
The main outdoor cable trench is about 80% complete, while underground drainage systems and branch cable trenches remain under construction.
Work on equipment foundations is also progressing, with 99 of 183 foundations completed on the 220kV side and concrete bases poured for 89 of 105 foundations on the 110kV side.
To meet the accelerated schedule, EVNNPT has directed the Northern Power Projects Management Board and contractors to mobilise maximum manpower, materials and equipment and maintain three-shift construction operations.
During a site inspection, Dang Hoang An, Chairman of Vietnam Electricity's Members' Council, urged the project owner, management board and contractors to intensify efforts, resolve bottlenecks and closely monitor daily construction progress.
He called for additional shifts to prevent delays from affecting equipment installation, testing, inspection and commissioning, while stressing the need to ensure construction quality and occupational safety.
All parties must coordinate closely and take full responsibility for completing and energising the project in November 2026, two months ahead of the original schedule, he said.
Once operational, the substation is expected to strengthen electricity supplies across Bac Ninh, particularly to industrial parks in the former Yen Dung district. It will also improve power supply reliability, reduce transmission capacity and energy losses, and support industrial production and investment attraction.
