Young wrestler Do Ngoc Linh makes Bac Ninh’s wrestling shine in international arenas

BAC NINH- The young female wrestler Do Ngoc Linh (born in 2004 in Ngoc Thien commune) has made ceaseless efforts to achieve her dream to compete at the Southeast Asian Games (SEA Games). At the 33rd SEA Games in Thailand, she had excellent performances to bag the gold medal at the first time she presented at the biggest regional sports arena.

Wrestling was among the final events at the 33rd SEA Games, which was expected to bring many medals for the Vietnamese sports delegation. However, the Vietnam’s wrestling team faced a lot of difficulties when the host country of Thailand cut off several competition events.

Despite enormous pressure, Do Ngoc Linh had outstanding performances at the finale against the Myanmar opponent to bag the gold medal at women’s free style 50kg event.

Prior to the achievements at the 33rd SEA Games, Do Ngoc Linh had a perfect run-up when she won the gold medal at the 2025 Southeast Asian Wrestling Championships in Singapore.

Especially, she made a splash as she claimed the gold medal at U20 Beach Wrestling World Championships in Egypt in 2024. This is a historic milestone of Bac Ninh’s wrestling team and the national team as well when it bagged the first gold medal at the Beach Wrestling World Championships.

Although she was born in a farmers’ family where no one pursues sport career, Ngoc Linh has shown natural athletic talent since she was young, particularly a very strong physical base.

With her outstanding ability, strong spirit and constant efforts to overcome herself, Ngoc Linh has made quick progress and has been given opportunities to compete at youth national championships and bagged the first medals in her career.

With her excellent control of the match and a fast, decisive fighting style, she caught the eyes of coaches and was called up to the national wrestling team in early 2024.

“Despite her young age, Ngoc Linh has demonstrated the qualities of an elite athlete with a signature fighting style, consistent performances as well as strong determination and resilience in both training and competition. What impresses me most about Linh is her never-give-up spirit. She always practices with great discipline, even during high-intensity periods or when dealing with minor injuries. These are essential qualities for a young athlete to go far”, said coach Tran Cong Bac, in charge of women wresting at Bac Ninh Sports Training and Competition Center No 2.

After SEA Games 33, Linh will highly concentrate on the target to achieve gold medals for Bac Ninh’s Sports at the 10th National Sports Festival in 2026.

Besides, she will given conditions to compete at international tournaments to gain experience towards long-term goals at Asian Games (ASIAD) and further ahead, to realize the dream of competing at the Olympic Games.
