They have also paid heed to promoting international cooperation to train labourers in a number of professions to meet regional and global standards. This is an opportunity for vocational school students to keep up with trends and meet the requirements of the world labour market.
Currently, the Bac Giang College of Industrial Techniques has affiliated with five universities and colleges, and more than 40 foreign enterprises to provide vocational training up to Southeast Asian, Asian and international standards.
In January 2024, the school coordinated with the School of Mechanical Engineering under China’s Guangxi University to launch a training cooperation programme in China, providing scholarships for excellent students and promoting the exchange of lecturers between the two schools to teach specialised topics related to electricity and automation.
Improving training quality according to international standards, vocational education institutions have deployed pilot training programmes for key occupations at regional and international levels. The Bac Giang-based Vietnam - Korea Vocational College of Technology now trains five occupations up to ASEAN standards, namely automotive technology, metal cutting, information technology, industrial electricity, and industrial electronics.
To increase job opportunities for students, the school signed a training cooperation agreement with the Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA) in Vietnam in 2013. This agency has provided the school with 10 million USD to invest in facilities and equipment serving the teaching of the above five occupations. In 2023, KOICA continued to support the school with more than 628,000 USD to install equipment and transfer technology in service of teaching and learning.
Creating job opportunities
The province currently has 35 vocational education establishments. On average, each year, these facilities enroll and organize training for about 29,000 people. Thanks to that, the number of trained workers in the province has increased rapidly, reaching more than 74%.
In 2023, Bac Giang province had 2,200 labourers sent to work abroad. International cooperation programmes created opportunities for vocational school students to pursue short-term and long-term training courses overseas. Students staying at home also had many opportunities to find high-income jobs at domestic enterprises.
Vocational schools have focused on investing in facilities and modern equipment. Their qualified teachers have regularly updated new knowledge and vocational skills. Many new professions related to technology, semiconductors, microchips, electronics, and automation have been trained systematically by the schools, meeting the recruitment needs of businesses.
Bac Giang province targets the rate of trained workers at 80%, and the rate of trained workers with degrees and certificates 35% by the end of 2025.
Tran Van Ha, Deputy Director of the provincial Department of Labour, War Invalids and Social Affairs, said that in the coming time, vocational education institutions will continue to accelerate digital transformation, renovate training methods, and learn from modern vocational training models in other countries to develop vocational training in the province.
Vocational education institutions will continue to cooperate with other countries and international organizations to support the improvement of vocational training management and mapping of vocational training policies, investment in facilities and equipment for teaching and learning; while promoting cooperation with foreign-invested enterprises and creating conditions for students to practice at production lines.
