Bac Giang maintains linkage, increases winter crop value

Updated: 17:55, 19/10/2023
BAC GIANG - In concentrated production areas, localities have paid due attention to linking product consumption, especially winter crops. This activity helps farmers conveniently produce and consume goods.

Vuong Anh Tuan and his wife Hoang Thi Quyen in Doi Chinh village, Dai Hoa commune (Tan Yen district) rented and borrowed more than 20 hectares of fields from neighboring households to grow sweet corn and potatoes.

Vuong Anh Tuan checks the quality of potato seeds for the 2023 winter crop.

Thanks to appropriate application of farming techniques, his family made a profit in the first year. Realizing the effectiveness of his family's model, many households have produced winter crops again.

In early 2020, the province and district had a policy to build sample potato fields and support the renovation of canals for irrigation. He founded Hoang Linh Agricultural Cooperative with 7 members to build the specialized fields.

Since then, the cooperative has been a "bridge" to supply potato seeds, fertilizer, and purchase agricultural products for farmers in neighboring localities as well as create seasonal jobs for 25-30 workers. Every year, his family earns a profit of more than 300 million VND deducting the production cost.

Thanks to the "channel" of linking and purchasing products of Tuan’s family with businesses, up to now, Doi Chinh village and surrounding areas have no longer had vacant fields in the winter crop.

Just like in Dai Hoa, for many years, farmers in concentrated production areas in Chu Dien, Dong Phu and Tam Di communes (Luc Nam district) no longer worry about output for agricultural products because there are stable purchasing leads.

The province has hundreds of businesses and cooperatives that sign contracts to produce and consume agricultural products. There are also small association models in production areas.

The forms of linkage are diverse by leasing fields to expand area and increase production scale; linking in purchasing agricultural products, sharing information, introducing markets...

This solution has contributed to improving the value of agricultural production in general and winter crops in particular, creating jobs, increasing income for rural workers.

This year's winter crop, the whole province plans to plant more than 21,700 hectares of vegetables. The Department of Agriculture and Rural Development urged the districts and cities to focus on linking the product consumption, especially vegetables, roots and fruits.

In 2022, the province realized 118 centralized production models, linkage of production and product consumption on an area of more than 3,900 hectares, bringing high economic efficiency of 100 - 500 million VND per hectare per year, 30-40 percent higher than normal production.

In 2023, the number of production and linkage models continues to increase compared to the previous year.

The provincial budget supports seeds and materials for a maximum of 3 seasons or 3 production cycles; provides 50 percent of the cost to buy seeds and essential materials but not exceeding 1.5 billion VND per project or linked plan (an increase of 500 million VND compared to previous regulations).

Recently, the provincial People's Committee has approved a list of 9 projects and plans to link the supply of materials and input services, organize production and harvest associated with the consumption of agricultural products in 2023 and the following years for 7 cooperatives with a total cost of nearly 19.7 billion VND.

Deputy Director of the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development Le Ba Thanh said: "The Department recommends each district and city to develop 4-5 centralized production linkage models in the winter crop. Special attention should be paid to expanding production models under linkage of product consumption with cooperatives and businesses right from the beginning of the season to ensure supply and demand, avoiding surpluses and falling product prices’.
