On 5 February morning, right after the weekly meeting at his unit, Colonel Pham Huu Tuan, Head of the Public Security of Yen Dung district, member of the district Steering Committee for Covid-19 prevention and control and the task force quickly move to inspect the pandemic fight at Noi Hoang commune, where 38 people are undergoing at-home quarantine and 2 others are under medical concentrated isolation in the district.

In order to have the list of these 40 people, 6 communal public security officers and medical staff have checked more than 2,000 households and nearly 1,000 workers renting houses in the commune regardless of day or night.

“As the locality bordering Chi Linh city, Hai Duong province, where confirming Covid-19 infected cases in the community, the district public security assigned 38 on-duty officers and soldiers at 8 Covid-19 checkpoints and 6 officers at the district’s concentrated isolation area on implementing social distancing. Besides, the unit collaborates with the waterway police force and the traffic police division (under the provincial Public Security Department) to closely control not to allow boats to carry passengers from Hai Duong province to Bac Giang (because currently Dong Viet ferry terminal is suspended operation), said Colonel Pham Huu Tuan.

Luc Nam district is adjacent to both Hai Duong and Quang Ninh provinces where confirming many Covid-19 cases.

“Every day, the group members are divided into different on-duty shifts to take time for some rest. When receiving order from the commander, all of us have to give up all personal stuff. This year, we will celebrate New Year Eve at the working places, thus we encourage each other to well fulfill our duties”, according to Lieutenant Nguyen Truong Thanh, member of Judgment Execution and Judicial Assistance Team who is on duty at the checkpoint No 1 in Ho Dau village, Cam Ly commune.

Like Lieutenant Nguyen Truong Thanh, all of the public security officers and soldiers of Luc Nam district performing the duties fighting against the pandemic at 32 groups and checkpoints in the communes and the district’s medical concentrated isolation center identify their mission to stay close to the on-duty posts and localities.

Right after the 1st Covid-19 case was detected in Chi Linh city on 27 January, Director of the Public Security Department of Bac Giang province sent a telegram to direct the pandemic prevention and control in the province’s public security force. The public security of the districts and city provided timely recommendations to the local steering committees for Covid-19 prevention and control to activate the entire pandemic fight system.

As of 5 February, the Public Security of Son Dong district mobilized 55 officers and soldiers to work at 6 groups and checkpoints on the exit and entrance routes from and to the district while establishing 1 mobile propaganda group and 1 on-duty team at the concentrated isolation area.

The Public Security of Bac Giang city arranged 18 on-duty officers at 3 checkpoints on the entrance routes to Bac Giang city and 3 officers working at the concentrated isolation area.

The Public Security of Lang Giang and Tan Yen districts assigned 3 officers and soldiers to ensure security and order at the concentrated isolation areas.

Visiting the headquarter of the people’s committee of Cam Ly commune at 12.00 on 5 February, we had chance to witness sharing and joining hands of local people and enterprises with the task force. 100 boxes of instant noodle and 20 kilos of confectionery worth nearly 15 million VND (647 USD) were given to Chairperson of Cam Ly communal people’s committee Nguyen Van Thach by Nguyen Thi Thu Huong, Director of Nham Bien Medical Joint Stock Company in Bac Giang city.

Previously, 3,000 eggs were sent to the on-duty forces by Ngo Van Anh in Que village, Bao Dai commune, Luc Nam district. Although the gifts are small in amount, they show great care for the officers and soldiers working regardless of day or night who “stay awake for the people’s good sleep”.

In fact, the public security force has become the people’s rock in the challenging struggle against the pandemic.
