Bac Giang: Xuong Giang victory commemorated

BGO – The 590th anniversary of the Xuong Giang victory was marked with a ceremony held at the Xuong Giang historic site in Xuong Giang ward, Bac Giang city, on February 2, the sixth day of the Lunar New Year. The ceremony was also to inaugurate the Xuong Giang temple.

The event was attended by Bui Van Hai, a member of the Party Central Committee, Secretary of the provincial Party Committee and Chairman of the People’s Council of Bac Giang province; and Tran Sy Thanh, a member of the Party Central Committee and Secretary of the Party Committee of Lang Son province and former secretary of the Bac Giang Party Committee; Nguyen Thanh Quat, revolutionary veteran, a former member of the Party Central Committee and former secretary of the Ha Bac provincial party committee; and Dao Xuan Can, a former member of the Party Central Committee, former secretary of the Bac giang Party Committee and former chairman of the Vietnam Union of Co-operatives.

Other attendees included Than Van Khoa, Deputy Standing Secretary of the provincial Party Committee; Nguyen Van Linh, Deputy Secretary of the provincial Party Committee and Chairman of the provincial People’s Committee; and Vice Chairmen of the provincial People’s Council Bui Van Hanh and Tu Minh Hai; Vice Chairmen of the provincial People’s Committee Duong Van Thai, Le Anh Duong and Nguyen Thu Ha; and others.

In this year’s festival, the Xuong Giang victory historic site was restored and expanded, making it easier to hold the festival and for pilgrims to visit the festival. The festival, which has been held annually since the re-establishment of Bac Giang province in 1997, lasts until February 11.

From the early morning, groups carrying flags, beating drums, gongs, carrying palanquins and parasols moved from different wards of Bac Giang city such as Da Mai, Hoang Van Thu, Dinh Ke, Tho Xuong and residential areas in Xuong Giang ward to the site of the festival.

Besides, art performances re-enacting the Xuong Giang battle created a festive atmosphere and showed the spirit of the heroic Bac Giang land.

In the speech opening the festival, a Bac Giang leader recalled the heroic tradition and highlighted the significance and great value of the Xuong Giang victory (1427) led by Le Loi and Nguyen Trai, which destroyed the northern invaders, ending 20 years of rule under the Ming Dynasty and bringing independence and peace to Dai Viet. It was an important victory in the northeastern region, creating the national independence in the 15th century. It is considered one of the strategic battles in Vietnam’s history of resisting invaders.

At the end of the ceremony, leaders of Bac Giang province and Bac Giang city cut ribbons to inaugurate the Xuong Giang Temple and offered incence to commemorate fallen soldiers who fought to defend Dai Viet.

Within the framework of the festival, there are other activities like displays of ornamental plants and animals, traditional craft products, calligraphy performance, Quan Ho, chau van and ca tru singing, folk games and sport competitions./.
