Bac Giang’s badminton trusts in young generation

Updated: 07:42, 24/12/2018
(BGO) – The badminton team of Bac Giang province completed the National Sports Festival (NSF) with one gold, one silver and two bronzes. Though the result was not fully satisfied the fans’ expectation, the local sports sector can trust in the future talented generation.

These are the faces well known for 2 or 3 recent years when they grasped high achievements in domestic youth tournaments. Even some persons were selected to the top line-up to vye for the medal in the national single and team’s championships so as to gain the experiences.

However, it was until 2018 when the young players showed their professional breakthrough. Typically, 18-year-old player Tran Thi Phuong Thuy confidently competed with strong rivals across the nation at the NSF though she has been trained for women’s singles recently. After the NSF, Thuy continued her impressive performance at the National Badminton Championship for Outstanding Players 2018 with a bronze at women’s singles event.

Luckily, the local sports sector has young players with the good profession and sharp progress that is a basis for the management board to make the training plan and supplement the next generation, thus creating firm belief and foundation for the future

Meanwhile, Than Van Anh (born in 2003) and Nguyen Thi Ngoc Lan (born in 2002) have shown great potential strength in spite of moderate achievement. At the recent NSF, Van Anh and Ngoc Lan performed an especially excellent manner to defeat a women couple at higher level from Thai Binh province, namely Binh Tho – Pham Khanh in the final match, hence making a turning point to help Bac Giang’s women team secure a gold medal at women’s team category.

Additionally, the duo has recently left a deep imprint at the National Badminton Championship for Outstanding Players 2018 by bagging a gold at women’s doubles event. Ngoc Lan also pocketed one more bronze at women’s singles while Van Anh joined hand with Van Hai to bring back a bronze at mixed doubles event.

Remarkably, Bac Giang’s badminton has boldly invested in men’s competition content with initial success after only focusing on women’s events for years. Though compared with the top Vietnamese male players, Giap Hoang Bach and Pham Van Hai (both born in 2001) lack of experience and profession, their potential was proved. Van Hai has shown his flexibility via astucious slype while Hoang Bach has a strong spirit and a firm competition manner. Two players entered the quarterfinal at men’s doubles event at the NSF and grasped a bronze at the National Badminton Championship for Outstanding Players 2018.

It may be too soon to talk about a fair competitiveness of young badminton players in the national champion arena because there are many strong faces with rich professional experiences at male event such as Do Tuan Duc, Pham Hong Nam, Le Ha Anh (Hanoi); Nguyen Tien Minh, Duong Bao Duc, Nguyen Hoang Nam (Ho Chi Minh city).....In women’s categories, Nguyen Thuy Linh (Da Nang) is at her best condition; Do Thi Hoai and Dinh Thi Phuong Hong (Thai Binh) are strong rivals.

At the age group of 15 – 16, Ngoc Lan (left) and Van Anh have trained at the national champion arena early.

However, Bac Giang’s badminton athletes have advantages of a dense force with uniform professional, especially in women’s contents. Time, hard training, adequate investment and rich experiences delivered by veteran athletes Vu Thi Trang and Nguyen Thi Sen definitely help the young force become more mature so as to bear the crucial task to bring the glory.

Chu Viet Bac, Deputy Director of the provincial Center of Sports Training and Competition said: “After the NSF, the first task for badminton game is to focus on reviewing the force, correctly analyze and evaluate the actual condition to build an investment strategy and long-term training. Luckily, the local sports sector has young players with the good profession and sharp progress that is a basis for the management board to make the training plan and supplement the next generation, thus creating firm belief and foundation for the future”.
