Dang, World No 38, defeated top seed Christo Popov of France, World No 12, 2-0 (21-9, 21-13) in the final to take home the title.

Earlier, he defeated arch-rivals Dennis Koppen of the Netherlands, World No 25, and Scotland’s Christopher Gimbley, World No 19, to reach the final.

Another Vietnamese player, Vu Thi Anh Thu, was the runner-up in the girls’ singles category after losing to Purva Barve of India 0-2 (13-21, 9-21) in the final match.

Thu is World No 49, while Barve is No 19. In the semi-final, she lost to Nazlican Inci of Turkey.

Both Dang and Thu have earned a berth in Youth Olympics 2018, which will be held in Buenos Aires, Argentina, in October.
