Bac Ninh develops green transportation

Updated: 10:50, 02/03/2026

BAC NINH - With a system of major rivers, Bac Ninh has a significant advantage in developing inland waterway transport to ease pressure on road traffic, while also reducing emissions and protecting the environment.

To leverage its waterway advantages, Bac Ninh has planned and put into operation numerous inland waterway terminals, contributing to greater diversity in transportation modes.

Notably, the Hung Giang inland waterway terminal on the Thuong River, operated by Hung Giang Company Limited in Tan Tien ward, has been operating efficiently.

The terminal offers convenient access for vessels and features modern cargo handling infrastructure. On average, dozens of large-capacity vessels dock here daily to load and unload goods for markets both inside and outside the province.

Similarly, the waterway terminal serving the transport of input materials for fertilizer production at Ha Bac Nitrogenous Fertilizer and Chemicals Joint Stock Company (in Bac Giang ward) also demonstrates clear advantages.

The demand for coal transported from Quang Ninh to supply the plant is substantial. If transported by road, the required cargo volume would necessitate numerous trucks, each carrying only a small portion per trip.

In contrast, a single barge can replace dozens of trucks, thereby reducing pressure on the road system and minimising accident risks.

On July 19, 2025, the Prime Minister issued Dispatch No. 113/CĐ-TTg on implementing solutions to effectively develop inland waterway transport and promote logistics in the transportation sector.

In response to the Government’s direction, Bac Ninh continues to focus on planning and developing port and inland waterway terminal systems along its river routes.

According to the provincial Master Plan for 2021-2030, with a vision to 2050, the province will have a total of 52 inland waterway ports distributed along the Luc Nam, Thuong, Cau, and Duong Rivers.

Currently, relevant authorities are coordinating to integrate planning schemes for logistics centers, warehouses, and distribution hubs associated with inland waterway transport.

A comprehensive review is being conducted of plans related to the investment and development of inland waterway infrastructure; assessments are also underway regarding the current status and operations of the inland waterway system, ports, and terminals.

Advisory bodies are assisting the province in formulating orientations and development plans for inland waterway transport infrastructure and services to ensure efficiency and synchronisation with other modes of transport.

Inspection and enforcement efforts are being strengthened to address violations affecting navigation corridors, ports, and inland terminals, ensuring smooth and safe traffic flow.
