Already known as Vietnam's electronics manufacturing powerhouse, home to global corporations such as Samsung, Canon, Amkor, Foxconn, Goertek and Luxshare-ICT, the province is evolving from a production base into a hub for innovation, research and development in strategic industries, including semiconductors, integrated circuits, artificial intelligence (AI), big data and the Internet of Things (IoT).

High-tech industry drives growth

Industry and construction remained the province's primary growth engine in the first six months of 2026, expanding by 12.55%, while industrial production rose 12.73%.

Industrial output was estimated at about 1.6 quadrillion VND (60.76 billion USD), up 16.17% year-on-year. The foreign-invested sector continued to dominate, accounting for more than 1.5 quadrillion VND in output, an increase of 16.59% over the same period last year.

Investment attraction also reached new milestones. Total registered investment, including both domestic and foreign capital, exceeded 9.86 billion USD in the first half, placing Bac Ninh fourth nationwide in FDI attraction.

According to the provincial Department of Finance, as of July 14, Bac Ninh had attracted more than 7,180 investment projects with total registered capital equivalent to nearly 94.8 billion USD.

Of these, more than 3,640 were FDI projects worth over 50.82 billion USD from investors representing 42 countries and territories, laying a solid foundation for a large-scale high-tech industrial ecosystem.

To accommodate a new wave of investment, Bac Ninh has continued to expand its industrial land bank.

During the first months of 2026, five new industrial parks received in-principle investment approval, with combined registered capital exceeding 8 trillion VND.

They include Yen Son; Expanded Yen Son–Bac Lung Phase 1; Xuan Cam–Huong Lam; Duc Giang Phase 1; and Chau Minh–Bac Ly–Huong Lam Phase 2.

The province now has 39 industrial parks covering more than 11,600 hectares, with an overall occupancy rate of about 53%, providing substantial capacity for future large-scale technology projects.

Under its development strategy through 2050, Bac Ninh aims to build a network of modern, smart and green industrial parks, prioritising electronics, semiconductors, digital and high-tech industries.

Specialised development clusters are planned across the province. The Yen Phong–Que Vo–Viet Yen corridor will focus on electronics manufacturing and logistics; Gia Thuan will develop high-tech industries integrated with logistics and aviation services; Lang Giang–Luc Nam will specialise in green and supporting industries; while Hiep Hoa–Tan Yen–Yen The will promote clean industries alongside high-tech agriculture.

Amkor Technology Vietnam Co., Ltd. has invested 1.6 billion USD in a semiconductor manufacturing, assembly and testing plant at Yen Phong II-C Industrial Park. The facility is Amkor's largest chip production base worldwide.

A key objective of the province's development strategy is to establish Bac Ninh as a leading centre for the electronics industry in Vietnam and the wider region, with a particular focus on semiconductors, chip manufacturing and artificial intelligence.

To achieve this goal, the province plans to develop an integrated ecosystem including high-tech parks, innovation centres, research and development (R&D) facilities, AI, big data and IoT centres, as well as modern logistics hubs and inland container depots (ICDs) connected to Gia Binh International Airport.

These investments are expected to enable Bac Ninh not only to attract advanced manufacturing projects but also to become a centre for research, innovation and the development of core technologies within global value chains.
