Bac Ninh synchronously invests in power infrastructure to serve industrial production

Updated: 20:53, 29/09/2025

BAC NINH- Bac Ninh is home to a large number of industrial parks and clusters. In order to ensure power supply for production and livelihoods, the electricity sector has invested in infrastructure, applied technologies and digital transformation as a foundation for sustainable development.

In the 2020-2025 period, the annual commercial electricity output in Bac Ninh province increased by over 7 percent. The total commercial electricity volume was only 11.6 billion kWh in 2020 while this figure is expected to reach 16.2 billion kWh in 2025.

Engineers of Bac Ninh Electricity Company are operating at the Control Center.

Of which, the industrial and construction sector consumes nearly 75 percent of the total electricity generation, reflecting the driving role of industrial production. Besides, household electricity consumption increases year on year, accounting for 20 percent of total output.

A series of new industrial parks such as Yen Phong II, Nam Son – Hap Linh, Vietnam-Korea, Yen Lu, Tan Hung and Hop Thinh will come into operation in the 2026-2030 period. Thus, power demand is predicted to rise by 5.5 percent annually.

Total commercial electricity output is estimated at over 21.3 billion kWh by 2030, demonstrating Bac Ninh’s robust growth rate and affirming its position as a regional industrial hub.

To meet the demand, the electricity sector has used enormous resources for infrastructure construction. The Northern Power Corporation (NPC) implemented tens of 110kv, medium voltage and low voltage power grid projects in 2023 and 2024, totaled some 2.1 trillion VND (79.52 million USD).

Hundreds of new substations have been built, many existing substations have been expanded and several medium and low-voltage overhead lines and underground cables have been upgraded. The power supply capacity has been dramatically enhanced, contributing to stable power supply to industrial parks and clusters as well as thousands of households in new residential areas.

Currently, the National Power Transmission Corporation (NPT) and NPC are investors of 6 key projects with a total capacity of 1,900 MVA consisting of Bac Ninh 500kV substation, Bac Ninh 4, Bac Ninh 5, Yen Dung and Lang Giang 220kV substations and Luc Ngan-Son Dong 110kV power line.

The projects including 24.4 km of 110kV double-circuit power line, 23km of 220kV double-circuit power line and 1 km of 500kV double-circuit power line with a total investment of over 4.355 trillion VND (164.9 million USD) are expected to complete in 2026-2027.

Once coming into operation, these projects will help to enhance transmission capacity and ensure power supply for Bac Ninh and neighboring provinces while meeting the increasing power demand of industrial and infrastructure projects as well as Gia Binh international airport.

Facing the sharp increase in power demand, Bac Ninh province has proactively invested in power grid infrastructure and fostered digital transformation; thereby meeting power demand for industrial development and urbanization as well as improving people’s quality of life.

Bac Ninh is on the right track to secure its role as a key industrial hub in the region and nationwide.
