Chess: Pham Le Thao Nguyen scores a brace of golds at national championships
The rapid event saw four players score seven points, but Thao Nguyen claimed the top honour thanks to her better auxiliaries.

She completed a double victory by winning the blitz category with 7.5 points and better auxiliaries than Bach Ngoc Thuy Duong (Ho Chi Minh City).
On the men’s side, Nguyen Ngoc Truong Son, who is Thao Nguyen’s husband, added a third gold medal for the Can Tho delegation following his supreme finish in the blitz chess category.

HCMC’s Nguyen Anh Khoi was named the rapid chess champion with 7.5 points, outpacing Hanoi’s Le Tuan Minh on auxiliaries.
The annual tournament is taking place from October 2 to 12 with the participation of 127 competitors from 15 cities and provinces nationwide. It serves as a platform for selecting outstanding players for Vietnam’s chess team at the 2021 Southeast Asian (SEA) Games, to be hosted in the country.
