Cooperatives in traditional villages fulfill orders for year-end season
BAC NINH - As the year comes to a close, cooperatives in traditional craft villages in Bac Ninh province are focusing on production, particularly for high-demand items like bamboo and rattan products and furniture items. Many households in these villages are determined to preserve their crafts and are striving to overcome challenges, hoping for a market revival during the Lunar New Year (Tet).
During this period, the Ngoc Quyet Bamboo and Rattan Cooperative in Xuan Hoi village, Lac Ve commune, is speeding up production to meet the consumer demand for the final months of the year. The cooperative has nine members, most of whom face many difficulties.

Recognising these challenges, the cooperative has improved product designs to cater to the preferences of different markets. Currently, the cooperative is preparing an order of 10,000 flower baskets for export to Taiwan (China) and 1,000 chicken coops for domestic buyers.
To meet these orders, the cooperative has organised 3-4 production teams both within and outside the province, employing about 400 workers - four times the usual workforce.
The Khuc Xuyen Woodworking Cooperative in Khuc Toai residential area, Kinh Bac ward, is also facing market difficulties, with a 30% decrease in orders. The cooperative is working hard to complete projects and orders for Tet.
Nguyen Van Vu, Director of the cooperative, has invested in various machines to increase production capacity and reduce labour costs. Additionally, his family has installed a drying oven worth 500 million VND (18,961 USD) to address the issue of natural wood shrinkage.
Another member of the Khuc Xuyen Woodworking Cooperative, Nguyen Van Vi, owns three carpentry workshops in the village and in Phu Khe ward. Recently, he has established partnerships with several furniture producers using other materials like aluminum and glass to meet the diverse needs of customers.
The Thuong Huyen Bamboo and Rattan Cooperative in Phu Coc village, Hop Thinh commune, is also working diligently to meet the demand, with production increasing by about 70% since early October. On some days, the cooperative ships about 6,000 products, mainly decorative lamps.
The province currently has 276 industrial and handicraft cooperatives, which are key players in traditional villages and local crafts. Among them, cooperatives producing wood products, bamboo and rattan goods, with a high level of craftsmanship, not only help preserve the local heritage but also create numerous jobs for workers.
According to Pham Minh Hien, Chairman of the provincial Cooperative Alliance, the unit is actively coordinating to organise trade promotion programmes and connect cooperatives and businesses not only within the province but also across the country, enhancing production capacity and consumption power.
