Da Mai 110kV substation energised, boosting power supply reliability

Updated: 13:19, 28/04/2026

BAC NINH – The 110kV Da Mai substation has been energised and put into operation, helping strengthen power supply capacity and improve reliability for the central area and surrounding regions.

The project is part of the “Efficient Power Grids in Medium and Small Cities – Phase 2” programme, which broke ground on September 30, 2025.

Power sector technicians inspect and test equipment after installation to ensure safe operation of the Da Mai 110kV substation.

It is financed by ODA loans from the German government via KfW Development Bank, along with counterpart funding from the Northern Power Corporation (EVNNPC), with total investment exceeding 116.7 billion VND (4.4 million USD). The project is managed by EVNNPC’s Power Grid Project Management Board.

Under the design, the project includes a 110kV transmission line and a 110/35/22kV substation. The transmission line stretches over 3.2 km, featuring a double-circuit configuration using ACSR300/39 conductors, TK50 ground wires and OPGW57/24 optical ground wire.

The Da Mai substation is newly built with a total designed capacity of 2x40 MVA. In the first phase, one 40 MVA transformer has been installed.

A key highlight of the project is its high level of automation in control, monitoring and protection systems. The 110kV bays are equipped with intelligent electronic devices, protection relays and microprocessor-based automation systems.

Signal transmission to the Northern Power System Dispatch Centre meets international standards and integrates automatic monitoring, metering, remote control functions, surveillance cameras and fire prevention and firefighting systems.

Commissioning the substation on schedule will help ease load pressure on existing substations, reduce medium-voltage supply distances, cut power losses and improve voltage quality.

The project also strengthens power supply for Da Mai ward and the Song Mai -  Nghia Trung Industrial Park, while facilitating the connection of the Da Mai waste-to-energy plant to the 110kV grid in line with planning, contributing to safe, stable and continuous electricity supply and supporting grid modernisation in Bac Ninh.
