Each grassroots trade union - a member benefit
BAC GIANG - Following the 2024 work theme "Each grassroots trade union - a member benefit", trade unions at all levels in Bac Giang province have promoted their role in caring for and protecting the rights and interests of members and employees. The practical, specific activities towards members with difficulties, motivating and encouraging them to be enthusiastic in production have left impressions on workers.
Taking care of trade union members
Currently, the province has more than 1,800 grassroots trade unions, with over 292,700 members. To affirm their role in representing and protecting the legitimate rights of workers, in recent years, trade unions at all levels in the province have constantly exerted efforts to make themselves strong with an array of activities.

According to Nguyen Van Canh, President of the provincial Confederation of Labour, closely following the direction of the Vietnam General Confederation of Labour and the provincial Party Committee, the provincial confederation has developed a plan to implement trade union work in 2024; and disseminated and directed the realisation of the action motto "Each grassroots trade union - a member benefit" to 17 upper-level and grassroots trade unions and especially those in enterprises.
With that motto, in the first five months of this year, the whole province established 48 grassroots trade unions and two federations of grassroots trade unions; admitted more than 5,400 new members; opened 10 classes to raise awareness of the Party for 471 outstanding workers; and organised 26 conferences disseminating legal regulations and cultural exchanges for more than 10,000 workers in boarding houses and businesses.
At the same time, the provincial Confederation of Labour supported the construction of "trade union shelters" for 17 members, with a total amount of 620 million VND (24,385 USD); gave gifts to 100 workers in difficult circumstances; and provided free health checkups for 200 female workers. During the Workers' Month, about 20,000 workers benefited over 1 billion VND from buying products at preferential prices from the "Stall for workers". As many as 8,000 workers in difficult circumstances were given discount vouchers.
Timely encouragement and support
With innovated content and operating methods, and greater attention to the practical and specific benefits of members, trade unions at all levels have created a solid fulcrum, attracting the participation of workers.

Shinsung Vina Co., Ltd. based in the Song Khe - Noi Hoang Industrial Park - a wholly Korean-owned enterprise operating since 2010, specialises in manufacturing all kinds of accessories for cars, mobile phones and other electronic devices. Right at the time of inception, its grassroots trade union was set up. Now it gathers nearly 1,000 members, or 100% of workers. Their average income reaches 8.5 million VND per month.
Every year, the executive committees of the grassroots trade unions hold periodic dialogues with members at the workplace; negotiate to sign and supplement terms beneficial to employees.
In particular, on the Workers' Month every year, the grassroots trade unions advise business leaders to organise many practical activities such as tug of war and mass dance competitions, rewarding individuals with many creative ideas in production and offering "trade union meals".
For many years, the trade union of Ha Phong Export Garment Joint Stock Company in Hiep Hoa district has effectively maintained the life support fund. In addition to the company's budget, the union also uses this fund to give gifts to members in difficult circumstances.
In order for trade unions to increasingly promote their role in representing and protecting workers' rights, trade unions at all levels have focused on campaigning and increasing the rate of grassroots unions in enterprises; continued to innovate operating methods, take care of members' interests to create a solid foundation for them, thus attracting more and more members.
