More than 100 draft designs in pencil and colour of the emblem of Vietnam by late painter Bui Trang Chuoc (1915-1992) are being displayed to the public at an exhibition that opened in Hanoi on August 25.

Works on display also include nearly 200 documents on the emblem of Vietnam.

The exhibition will run until September 6 at the Vietnam Fine Arts Museum, 66 Nguyen Thai Hoc street, Ba Dinh district, Hanoi.

The victory of the August Revolution in 1945 led to the birth of the Democratic Republic of Vietnam, now the Socialist Republic of Vietnam.

The design contest for the emblem of Vietnam was launched in 1951, attracting the enthusiastic participation of painters across the country. Bui Trang Chuoc made a total of 112 sketches for the emblem and its details, and 15 of them were submitted to the Government in October 1954.

Artist Bui Trang Chuoc was born in 1915 in Hanoi. He graduated from the Indochina Fine Arts College (now the Vietnam Fine Arts University) in 1941. He was the first Vietnamese painter to design postage stamps in Indochina.
