Exhibition promises to bring back memories of legendary wartime trail

Updated: 20:21, 24/04/2019
An art exhibition opening in Hanoi on Friday promises to bring back Vietnam War memories related to the Truong Son Trail.

The exhibition at the Vincom Center for Contemporary Art, titled Memories of Truong Son Trail, will feature 200 paintings, sketches, installation works, and video art pieces about the trail, known more commonly as the Ho Chi Minh Trail, a strategic transport route connecting North Vietnam and South Vietnam during the war.

Troops and supplies were delivered to the Vietnamese army in southern battlefields through this trail.

Some of the works were created right on the trail in 1960-75. The other works were created later based on documents and sketchbooks from the war.

There will be two installation pieces, one about memories of the trail using black-and-white photos and the other depicting the battles and memories of Truong Son from diaries.

Handwritten music sheets and poems about the Truong Son Trail will also be on display.

A nine-episode film series, the Legendary Truong Son Story, will be shown at the exhibition with actual footage of the Vietnam War.

The event, organized by the Vincom Center for Contemporary Art (VCCA) and Association of Truong Son - Ho Chi Minh Road, will mark the 44th anniversary of Vietnam’s Reunification Day on April 30 and 60th anniversary of the creation of the Truong Son Trail.

The exhibition from April 26 to May 26 will offer free entry.
