Experiential activities bring Tet cheer to disadvantaged children in Bac Ninh

Updated: 10:45, 21/01/2026

BAC NINH - Nearly 100 disadvantaged children took part in an experiential programme titled “Green Chung Cake – My Hometown Tet Market” held on January 20 at Facility No. 2 of the Bac Ninh General Social Protection Centre.

The event was jointly organised by the Bac Ninh General Social Protection Centre and Bac Giang Mountainous College, offering children with special circumstances - including hearing and speech impairments, orphans and children living with HIV - an opportunity to engage in a range of recreational and educational activities ahead of the Lunar New Year.

Staff at the Bac Ninh General Social Protection Centre guide children in making traditional banh chung.

Activities included making traditional banh chung (square sticky rice cakes), decorating stalls themed around a traditional Tet market, and participating in cultural and sporting exchanges such as folk games, calligraphy writing, bamboo dancing, tug of war and sack races.

The programme attracted the active participation of officials, staff members, teachers, children and parents, with the banh chung wrapping activity drawing particular interest.

Under the guidance of centre staff, the children prepared ingredients and practiced wrapping the traditional cakes themselves, helping them gain a deeper understanding of the cultural values and customs associated with national Lunar New Year.

A lively “Hometown Tet Market” space was recreated with colourfully decorated stalls, allowing the children to experience the festive shopping atmosphere and receive meaningful gifts. Organisers said the programme not only brought joy and emotional support to the participants but also helped equip them with life skills and strengthen coordination in child care and education among institutions and families.

The activities also aimed to foster a spirit of sharing and create a warm Tet atmosphere, helping vulnerable children overcome feelings of inferiority and encouraging them to study, work and integrate confidently into the community.
