Hanoi's Old Quarter opens programme to welcome Tet

The Management Board of Hoan Kiem Lake and Hanoi's Old Quarter in coordination with relevant units opened a programme to welcome Lunar New Year 2022 – the Year of the Tiger – at the Hanoi Old Quarter Culture Exchange Centre, at No. 50 Dao Duy Tu Street, on January 28.

The Lunar New Year is the most important festival in the Vietnamese mind. On this occasion, wherever they are, everyone looks forward to gathering with their family and welcoming the transition from the old year to the new year. This is also the time when the whole community turns towards the traditional cultural values of the nation.

On this occasion, the Management Board of Hoan Kiem Lake and Hanoi's Old Quarter organised a series of activities honouring traditional culture, recreating the beauty of Vietnamese Tet, and the characteristics of "Tet Pho" (Tet space in Hanoi's Old Quarter) at many relics and cultural spaces in the area.

Following the opening ceremony on the morning of January 28 at the Hanoi Old Quarter Culture Exchange Centre, the Management Board of Hoan Kiem Lake and Hanoi's Old Quarter held an incense offering ceremony that afternoon at Kim Ngan Communal House (42-44 Hang Bac Street) to express gratitude to the ancestors, report the achieved results, and pray for peace.

The organising board re-enacted a ceremony to install ‘cay neu’ (a tall bamboo pole with red garment strips), an important ritual to ward off evil spirits and welcome the Lunar New Year.

At the heritage house at 87 Ma May Street, on the morning of January 29, there will be an exchange of narcissus growers. Accordingly, narcissus experts will give an introduction to the narcissus hobby of Hanoi people, and how to create a beautiful bowl of narcissus.

In addition, the programme also has traditional performances, exhibitions, art installations with the themes of Tiger 2022, Light, Pottery greeting Spring 2022 at many locations, aiming to preserve and promote the culture of Hanoi's Old Quarter.
