Kind hearts support for flood-hit areas
BAC GIANG- Typhoon Yagi has triggered widespread floods, isolated many localities, caused loss of life and assets in northern province of Bac Giang. Many organizations, units and individuals have joined hands with the entire political system to implement a number of voluntary activities towards the flood-hit areas to share difficulties with local people.
Giving help with anything they have
Passing a long way of 350 kilometres, Mai Anh Tu (born in 1992) in Vinh city (Nghe An province) and some friends from Thai Binh province and Hanoi arrived in Son Dong district on September 9 night.

As he was born and grew up in a province, which is often destroyed by typhoons and floods, Tu understand the hardness the people in flood-hit areas have to suffer.
With a hope to share with local people, Tu and his family deducted their income to support flood victims and on-duty forces. Tu’s team collaborated with the related units to give 1 tonnes of rice, 500 boxes of instant noodle, necessities and many gift packages to people in Son Dong and Luc Ngan district, valued at total 120 million VND (4,841 USD).
On 10 September, 10 trucks of the driver group in the districts of Yen Dung and Lang Giang and Viet Yen township lined up on the provincial road 293 ready for the journey to the people in Phong Minh communes (Luc Ngan district) and Yen Dinh commune (Son Dong district). These localities were seriously affected by typhoon Yagi.
The trucks were full with boxes of instant noodle, milk, clothes, washing powder and mattress, which were carefully covered with canvas. These supplies and stuff were sent with love from the people in other localities in the province to the flood-hit people mobilized by Phuong Hoang humanitarian club (Yen Dung district).
The “zero dong” trucks are driven by Nguyen Tuan Ngoc in Xuong Lam commune (Lang Giang district) and his friends to carry relief goods to needy localities in the province.
With the spirit of sharing what they have and encouraging each other to overcome difficulties and damages, the voluntary and charity activities have been implemented in many localities.
A number of voluntary clubs and individuals in the province have launched activities to support flood prevention and damage remediation to help local people soon stabilize their living.
Making joint efforts to overcome difficulties
These days, water level in Luc Nam, Thuong and Cau rivers rises high severely affecting the districts of Luc Ngan and Son Dong and many localities near the rivers including Bac Giang city, Viet Yen township, Hiep Hoa, Yen Dung and Lang Giang districts.

Joining hands with the departments, agencies and localities, the all-level women’s unions in the province has mobilized members and unionists to participate in flood prevention and addressing the aftermaths.
In early morning of 10 September, the members of the women’s union of Nghia Hoa commune, Lang Giang district collaborated with the militia force to help the people in the areas of Cham terminal and Tan Lap village to evacuate hundreds of poultry.
Besides, the women’s union of Lang Giang district sent its officials and members to take part in logistic work to support moving assets and harvesting. They also joined hands with the functional forces to handle landslides at the dykes in the communes of Nghia Hung, Huong Son, Duong Duc and Xuan Huong.
Flood from the upstream has caused a rapid rise of Cau river water level flooding many communes in Hiep Hoa district affecting hundreds of families.
Facing the emergency, the district women’s union has mobilized its members and sponsors to support food and necessities for the households who have to evacuate to temporary accommodations.
In addition, they cook and make cakes to bring to isolated households. Despite difficulties and shortage in line with the worry of high rising water level, they always encourage each other to overcome.
Many localities in Son Dong district were severely flooded after the storm, some of which were 6 to 7 metre flooded. In order to accompany local people and government, the youth union of Son Dong district has mobilized nearly 300 young people to help in and after the storm following the “4 on-site” principle (on-site command, on-site forces, on-site vehicles, on-site supplies and on-site logistics).
On 10 September, the provincial Red-Cross Society donated necessities for 87 isolated households in Vu Tru Lang village, Vu Xa commune, Luc Nam district.
The provincial Fatherland Front Committee gave 30 million VND (1,210 USD) from the “Fund for the Poor” to support the family of Vi Thi Thanh (born in 1988) belonging to Nung ethnic group in Khuon Ken village, Tan Son commune, Luc Ngan district, whose house was collapsed by typhoon Yagi.
