Not wearing helmets is one of the primary causes of injury to children in road accidents, said Deputy PM Binh.

After a decree on compulsory helmets for riders of motorbikes and electric bikes was introduced in 2018, the rate of children aged 6-15 wearing helmets has increased from 35% to 52%.

But Deputy PM Binh stated that it is still common to see adults with helmets riding with their children without helmets on their heads behind.

He affirmed that the government always creates the best possible conditions for children to live in a safe environment and asked all the parties concerned to take action in order to raise awareness on the importance of crash helmets and road safety.

Speaking at the event, Hanoi Chairman Nguyen Duc Chung urged parents to put helmets on their children as an act of love, not as a way to evade fines from police.

Meanwhile Minister of Education and Training Phung Xuan Nha said that he will direct local education departments and educational institutions to work with road safety boards to increase education on road safety for students.

In his address, Deputy PM Binh prodded students to wear helmets, to always remember to wear helmets when riding motorbikes, scooters and electric bikes, and only get on the vehicles when the helmets are already put on.
