Although Bac Giang's lychee is assessed to be of top quality in the world, for many years, when the lychee season came, managers, scientists, businesses and even the whole community had to involve in the process of “rescuing” lychee because the crop was bumper but the price was very low.

At that time, many people expressed their bewilderment and regret, and accepted a fact that the golden age of lychee went into the past. The story of selling a lychee basket for three ‘chi’ of gold is just a fabulous fairy tale...

In the agricultural development plan, the provincial People's Committee clearly defined the goal of maintaining and developing tree and animal groups that Bac Giang has advantages through improving their quality and value, and making them the main agricultural products of the province. Of which, lychee remains a key agricultural product that needs to be maintained, invested and developed.

Lychee is a main source of livelihood of Luc Ngan people.

The provincial People's Committee has instructed localities with strength in lychee to review planning of growing areas; eliminate areas of poor quality lychee; recommend people control the area, not follow the quantity but focus on preserving and developing the areas of lychee with good and stable quality.

Along with that, it is necessary to mobilize the engagement of scientists. Many households have bravely narrowed the area and produced lychee according to scientists' processes.

In the 2019 lychee crop, Bac Giang province has over 28,000 hectares of lychee under harvest with an estimated output of 150,000 tonnes. Of which, about 14,000 ha, accounting for one third of the total lychee area, are produced according to VietGAP and GlobalGAP standards to ensure quality products that are eligible for export. Especially, Luc Ngan district has successfully piloted the growing of 20 ha of lychee in line with organic standards.

The provincial People's Committee has drastically directed agencies and localities to actively and flexibly take advantage of the support of the ministries and central agencies; proactively step up consumption promotion activities at home and abroad to bring lychee far away via official export channels.

The lychee production and consumption of Bac Giang always receive special attention from central agencies.

The image of 12 carefully- and well-packed Luc Ngan organic lychee fruits sold for 200,000 VND (8.6 USD) has really created an inspiration and a belief in the success of the linkage model of six stakeholders (farmers, the State, scientists, investors, banks and distributors) to lift the lychee to a "new level".

The production decreased by nearly 40 percent, but with nearly 6.4 trillion VND in revenue, including nearly 4.7 trillion VND coming came from selling lychee, Bac Giang lychee farmers have set a new record.

9 tonnes of lychee exported to US and Australia

(BGO) – Cao Van Hoan, Permanent Vice Chairman of the People’s Committee in Luc Ngan district, Bac Giang province informed that the first 5-ton and 4-ton batches of lychee were exported to the US and Australia respectively while the promotion campaigns have been done in several markets of Japan, Republic of Korea, Singapore…so as to introduce the fruits to the native customers.
