Luc Ngan orchard owners care for fruit trees, beautify gardens to welcome tourists
Diep Van Bao’s family in Se Moi village, Thanh Hai commune, Luc Ngan district grows more than 1 hectare of citrus fruits, mainly yellow flesh orange. This year, his garden continues to be chosen as a destination to welcome tourists and traders before, during and after the trade fair by the Organising Board for the trade fair of orange, pomelo and signature products. When coming here, tourists can freely pose for nice photos in a beautiful landscape and enjoy sweet fruits.

As Luc Ngan trade fair of orange, pomelo and signature products is an important event to promote the special products, the orchard owners in Luc Ngan are paying high attention to caring for the best quality fruits.
The orchard of Nguyen Van Mau’s family in Dong Quyt village, Tan Moc commune with 7 hectares of yellow flesh and sweet orange is also selected one of the tourist destinations. Many orange trees have been grown since 2008 and cared under VietGAP standard. Especially, Mau doesn’t use herbicide for the trees, thus they always grow green and bear delicious and sweet fruits.
Luc Ngan district has nearly 7,000 hectares of circus fruit trees, the biggest area in the entire province including yellow flesh and sweet orange, green skin pomelo, sweet pomelo and Hoang pomelo. The output this year is estimated at 60,000 to 70,000 tonnes, up from 7,000 to 10,000 tonnes compared to the previous crop.
This year, in order to facilitate consumption and enhance goods value, the people’s committee of Luc Ngan district is promptly boosting implementation of the plan “Experience tourism in orange and pomelo season”. Of which, they will focus on the unique and typical tourism products of the district, attaching experiencing the fruit orchards to preserving and promoting cultural identities of the ethnic groups. |
This time, the garden owners are harvesting green skin pomelo, getting about 30 percent of the growing area, sold at from 25,000 to 40,000 VND (1 to 1.7 USD) per kilo, the same prices as last year.
In order to facilitate consumption and enhance goods value, the people’s committee of Luc Ngan district is promptly boosting implementation of the plan “Experience tourism in orange and pomelo season”. Of which, they will focus on the unique and typical tourism products of the district, attaching experiencing the fruit orchards to preserving and promoting cultural identities of the ethnic groups and establishing new tours and routines to attract tourists.
To date, the district has selected 20 orchards meeting standards for welcoming tourists such as large-sized gardens with different types of citrus fruits, beautiful landscape, convenient traffic and adequate facilities to receive tourists (including accommodation service).
These destinations are located in the villages of Hoa Quang and Dong Quyt (Tan Moc commune), Bong 1 and Se Cu (Thanh Hai commune), Ngot (Hong Giang commune) and Min Con (Tru Huu commune).
This year, the district people’s committee will support the orchard owners from 300,000 to 500,000 VND (13 to 21.7 USD) per each tourist group together with tarpaulin and furniture.
According to Vi Thi Thuy Anh, Head of the district’s Division for Culture and Information, the district worked with the provincial Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism to collaborate with some prestigious travel companies to set up tours and routines for tourists to experience the orange and pomelo season in line with exploiting other tourism resources such as spiritual culture, intangible culture and beautiful landscapes.
Besides, the district will focus on making tours like visiting Am Vai and Khanh Van pagodas and Tu Ha temple combined with experiencing the orchards or eco-tourism to Khuon Than and Cam Son lakes linked with garden tourism.
Luc Ngan’s orange and pomelo are in harvest season. With new methods and initiatives of the local party committee and government especially in production promotion and consumption, the orchards in Luc Ngan is expected to gain another bumper crop.
