Updated: 17:21, 24/05/2024

BAC GIANG - On the afternoon of May 23, the People's Committee in Luc Ngan district (Bac Giang province) held a conference to promote lychee consumption in 2024 season.

According to Luc Ngan district leaders, this year, the total lychee area in the district reached more than 17,000 hectares, including nearly 13,400 hectares of lychee cultivated in line with VietGAP and GlobalGAP standards; nearly 4,000 hectares of early ripening lychees.

Vice Chairman of Luc Ngan district People’s Committee Nguyen Van Hai voices at the event.

Total fresh fruit output is estimated at 50,000 tonnes and harvest season started from May 15. To date, the district has harvested and consumed more than 1,000 tonnes of lychee with high selling prices of 30-70,000 VND per kg.

Promoting positive results from previous years, this year, the district continues paying more attention to export markets; establishing promotion teams to explore the domestic market and proactively deploy consumption solutions at wholesale markets, Southern markets and provinces with international border gates such as Lao Cai and Lang Son. ...

On this occasion, many businesses, cooperatives and gardeners have linked lychee production and business activities with the development of eco-tourism, cultural and community based tourism such as: Opening the garden to welcome tourists to experience and buy products; collaborating with travel businesses to build sightseeing tours so as to strongly promoting the image and brand of Luc Ngan lychee.

The district directed communes and towns to establish a steering committee to support lychee harvesting and consumption; proposed the Provincial Public Security, military units and youth volunteers in the area to join hands in ensuring traffic order, safety and security.

Besides, the district also established inter-sectoral working groups to inspect the market and labor information support team to serve lychee harvesting and consumption.

The specialized agencies organized peak propaganda campaigns and guided growers to care for, harvest, process and package lychees in strict compliance with technical and quarantine regulations before exporting.

At the conference, representatives of a number of businesses and cooperatives hoped that authorities and functional agencies at all levels would create the best conditions for lychee consumption and local tourism services.
