Major road construction boosts up development

Updated: 18:48, 09/02/2024
BAC GIANG - Ten years ago, Bac Giang was known as a poor and underdeveloped mountainous province. At that time, the province was almost isolated from the Northern Key Economic Region with only a few bridges connecting with Hanoi city, Bac Ninh and Hai Duong provinces as well as narrow and small roads.

Acknowledging the infrastructure, especially the transport infrastructure system was the fundamental technical basis and essential to ensure socio-economic development, the Provincial Party Committee, People's Council and People's Committee had drastically gathered all resources to invest in transportation and break local isolation.

Recently, the province has made a breakthrough to expand Nhu Nguyet bridge and build Dong Viet bridge.

With the spirit of "Expressway - big rich, middle road - middle rich, small road - small rich, no highway – no rich", the province has proactively exchanged, cooperated and linked with neighboring localities on developing the infrastructure, especially transportation infrastructure to expand development space, such as cooperating with Hanoi Capital to connect to Noi Bai International Airport; cooperating with two provinces of Quang Ninh and Hai Duong to connect with ports and seas; cooperating with Lang Son province to connect with the economic corridor and Huu Nghi border gate; cooperating with two provinces of Bac Ninh and Thai Nguyen to connect with industry, services and tourism.

Also, Bac Giang completed upgrading and expanding National Highway 1 into 4 lane expressway with a length of 39.7 km.

The inauguration of many traffic works has made an important contribution to the provincial socio-economic development. In recent years, the province always secures first or second ranking nationwide in GRDP growth rate. In 2023, the province ranked first with the growth rate of 13.45 percent.

In addition, the province has put resources into internal transport routes. The modern urban transport routes have been completed such as Xuong Giang road overpass to connect Minh Khai street with Tran Quang Khai street; Tran Quang Khai street overpass crossing over Thuong River while renovating and expanding Hung Vuong street overpass, Nguyen Van Cu street and building A Lu bridge among others.

The districts have mobilized resources on improving existing roads and opening new roads to connect the area according to issued planning, ensuring road surface widths of at least 6m. In particular, the province has highly focused on rural transport development.
