Many solutions taken to promote businesses’ digital transformation
The province currently has nearly 12,000 enterprises, mainly SMEs. In the field of information technology (IT), electronics and telecommunications, there are about 660 businesses. Notably, a number of large enterprises producing electronic components for export earned more than 153 trillion VND (6.65 billion USD) in revenue in 2020, and contributed 163 billion VND to the state budget.

Bac Giang is one of the 20 leading localities in the country in terms of IT revenue, number of IT enterprises and workforce. On the other hand, local telecommunications enterprises are focusing on developing and upgrading network infrastructure and expanding service types in a modern and synchronous manner to cover even remote areas.
However, because digital transformation is a new and complex activity with many things to do, many enterprises, especially small- and medium-sized ones, are passive in implementation and encounter barriers. Many of them are still confused and yet to define the roadmap and plan for digital transformation, application of digital technology and digitalization to innovate and meet development trends.
According to Luong Xuan Diem, Director of Song Hong Technology Development and Investment Joint Stock Company (Viet Yen district), the company consists of young members with high technical skills, most of them have ever worked abroad, so it chose to break through into the field of high technology and precision mechanics, meeting the huge demand in industrial zones and clusters.
“All works from choosing designs to dealing with customers, we do on the computer and the Internet environment. This form has proved even more effective during the recent Covid-19 outbreak. However, concretizing digital transformation is still ambiguous due to lack of investment resources and high workshop costs. Enterprises need the help of competent agencies and authorities to soon make digital transformation successful," said Diem.
Recently, the Ministry of Information and Communications and the provincial People's Committee have agreed to implement a joint action programme to promote digital transformation in Bac Giang province in 2021. It focuses on developing e-commerce with participation of businesses, carrying out e-commerce platform solutions to enable citizens and businesses to buy and sell products and services on the cyber space, and supporting at least 100 SMEs in digital transformation.
However, the implementation of digital transformation in enterprises faces many barriers. Currently, the company is cooperating with many businesses, agencies and units to deploy digital transformation in the fields of education, construction, and traffic monitoring. But the biggest difficulty today is the low awareness of digital transformation among many people, especially heads of the enterprises. On the other hand, Bac Giang lacks qualified, skilled and responsible IT human resources.
According to Nguyen Gia Phong, Deputy Director of the provincial Department of Information and Communications, it is expected that the contents related to digital transformation in enterprises will be implemented in July 2021. In the immediate future, businesses need to clearly define their goals and areas for digital transformation and prepare enough data as this is a form of resource that brings in the power of digital transformation. On the basis of needs, requirements and available business data, units will develop criteria to choose an appropriate administration platform.
With a young, large and dynamic population with fast access to high technology and being one of the fastest growing economies in the region, along with the determination of the provincial leaders to facilitate digital transformation in terms of mechanisms, policies and investment support, this is a great opportunity for Bac Giang enterprises to create breakthroughs thanks to digital transformation.
