Mid-Autumn Festival activities open in Thang Long Citadel

A range of activities, recapping about the traditional mid-autumn festival, kicked off at Thang Long Imperial Citadel in Hanoi on September 6.

The programme this year, which is titled “Festive Drums of Autumn Moon”, aims to restore and recreate the vivid and joyful images and sounds of the traditional Mid-Autumn Festival. Especially noteworthy are the images of the drums of all shapes, sizes and colours which are arranged and displayed to remind visitors of the festive ambience in the countryside of Vietnam.

Coming to the programme at Thang Long Imperial Citadel, children will have a chance to take part in useful and exciting activities such as watching lion dances, listening to folk songs, taking check-in photos outdoors in the open space beautifully decorated with drums and star lanterns, experiencing the making of mooncakes, making some types of traditional toys such as mâché paper mask painting, making kites, painting statuettes, painting sketches, matching pictures, kneading dough figurines. 

They will also take part in traditional games such as seesaw, slides, triangular hill, and bamboo bridge.

On the same day, Hanoi Old Quarter Management Board also organised a series of cultural activities in areas like the pedestrian zone in the Old Quarter, Sword Lake pedestrian streets, the fresco art space of Phung Hung Street, Kim Ngan communal house, the Hanoi Old Quarter Cultural Exchange Centre and the House of Legacy at 87 Ma May Street.

Traditional mid-autumn activities including kylin – lion dance with competitors from 18 different wards, a night banquet, lantern parade, folk games and children's martial arts competition will take place at the festival.
