As expected, two International Grand Chess Masters Nguyen Thi Mai Hung and Vo Thi Kim Phung excellently gained one more gold to the provincial sports delegation.

In the qualifying round of the team event, two girls had to compete with 10 other teams from different provinces, cities and sectors. Thanks to the flexibility in smart moves and high level, Kim Phung and Mai Hung easily achieved the first ranking at the group.

When entering the semi-final, though they encountered two veteran athletes from Ho Chi Minh city, namely Nguyen Thi Thanh An and Le Kieu Thien Kim with rich experiences and skill, the Bac Giang’s girls had one more victory by the clever and diverse performance.

The victory against the top strong rivals at the festival helped Bac Giang’s female team confidently proceeded to the final match with Nguyen Thi Thuy Trien and Bui Kim Le from Binh Dinh province. At this stage, each pair of athlete had to compete with each other in the first and second leg format as the regulation of the organization board.

Nguyen Thi Mai Hung took one draw and one win over Thuy Trien while Vo Thi Kim Phung excellently defeated Kim Le in both competitions. With these results, Bac Giang team earned a final victory, hence bagged a gold medal at blitz chess event.

It was the second gold of Bac Giang’s chess and also the seventh gold of the provincial sports delegation at the National Sports Festival 2018.

As of 17:30 on December 5, Bac Giang rank eighteenth in the medal tally with 7 golds, 2 silver and 5 bronzes, especially the province overpassed Thai Nguyen to secure the first position in the mountainous provinces nationwide.
