Nurturing Vietnam - Laos friendship

(BGO)- As a member of the provincial Union of Friendship Organizations in Bac Giang province, the Vietnam - Laos Friendship Association has launched many practical activities to deepen the traditional relation between Vietnam and Laos.

The visit and field trip to the high-tech farming model at Yen Dung Clean Vegetable Cooperative is a meaningful experience for Som sack and other 20 Lao students who are studying at Vietnam Academy of Agriculture.

“We received enthusiastic welcome by the Vietnam - Laos Friendship Association of Bac Giang province and farmers in the Cooperative. The knowledge in net-house vegetable growing procedures, the linkage between cultivation and consumption and melon and green grape growing techniques will be helpful for us in studying and after returning our hometown”, said Som sack.

“Bac Giang has gained many achievements in investment attraction, industrial and agricultural development with a rich culture; hence, we prioritize choosing typical models to carry out the “Nurturing Friendship” programme”, said Nguyen Xuan Khoi, Chairman of the Vietnam - Laos Friendship Association of Bac Giang province.

Since 2018, the Association has welcomed 140 groups of Lao students who study at Ho Chi Minh Academy of Politics, Vietnam Academy of Agriculture and Bac Giang University of Agriculture and Forestry coming to exchange, visit and learn experiences.

Especially in 2019, the Association sent a working delegation to Laos to present 150 lychee trees and 80 pomelo trees and directly guide local people caring techniques. These trees have been growing well thanks to support of Bac Giang’s staff.

With more than 3,500 members, mainly former volunteer soldiers and military experts who used to help Laos during the war time, the activities by the Association towards the country of million elephants have received positive responses.

Particularly, the grassroots-level associations donated some 41 million VND (1,770 USD) in response to the mobilization to build a house of gratitude for mother Kachia in Xekong province, Laos who nurtured Vietnamese soldiers in the resistance war and 31 million VND (1,300 USD) to Lao people affected by Attapeu dam collapse.

Besides, the members of the Vietnam - Laos Friendship Association of Bac Giang province proactively participated in the mobilization and emulative movements launched by the local party committee and government.

In order for effective implementation of the “Nurturing Friendship” programme in coming time, the Vietnam - Laos Friendship Association of Bac Giang province will pay attention to consolidating the organization and attracting more members.

They will also organize the exchanges with Lao students who are studying in the universities and colleges in Bac Giang and neighbouring provinces while fostering advocacy about Vietnam – Laos friendship to people of all strata especially young generation to enhance understanding of the history, country, people and culture of the 2 countries.
