Pham Tien San’s harsh journey and happiness

(BGO) – The track and field athlete Pham Tien San (silver winner of 2017 SEA Games) has completed a meaningful event “Trans-Viet relay marathon” together with his teammates and called for the donation of over 1 billion VND (43,000 USD) to support the surgery expenses for the children with cleft lip and palate. 

Pham Tien San is a popular name among the fan community in Bac Giang province because he contributed a silver medal to Vietnam sport at 29th SEA Games in 2017 at 3,000m event as well as several activities beside the run course.

Recently, the Bac Giang born athlete, his professional and amateur teammates, especially the starter Nong Van Chuyen have joined the “Trans – Viet relay marathon.” 10 athletes, including the oldest one of 54 years old, acknowledged the humanity of the programme then actively accompanied the younger faces to realize the run.

Previously, these athletes raised their idea after the Covid-19 pandemic was well controlled. They departed at 0 am on June 10 at Friendship Border Gate (Lang Son province) and finished at 11 am on June 20 at Cape Flag Pole (Ca Mau province). they finished the journey of more than 2,600km (initial length of 2,400km) after nearly 250 hours, 33 hours earlier than expected.

Apart from promoting the image and beauty of Vietnam, accelerating the sports movement to enhance the health condition during the journey, the participants hoped to transfer the positive messages such as “No driving after drinking”...

Additionally, the group realized the mission of community inspiration to call for the members of all clubs, track and field athletes and kind-hearted people across the nation to join hands in the fund raising activities of the group and Operation Smile Vietnam to widely spread the message “Changing one life per day”.

Initially, the group expected to help bring back the smile to an impoverished child at the end of each running day. However, they succeeded to call for the donation of over 1 billion VND by several records made in the event.

The event draws many participants.

The amount is equivalent to over 115 surgeries to cure the children with cleft lips and palates in difficult families nationwide. Of the total, OCB Life donated 900 million VND (100 surgeries) while Trung Nam Group presented 90 million VND.

San said though it was the hardest journey he has ever participated in life, it brought him many experiences and happiness when receiving the kind support from friends and local running lovers.

The great meaning of the event also helped ease the hardness on the run course every day. The hot weather and road breaking the shoes was soon left behind, but the happiness to the impoverished children with chance of surgery and bright smile in future bring San and his teammates great joy.

(BGO) - Chairman of the provincial People’s Committee of Bac Giang province has decided to approve the project “Samsung Hope School” in Dinh Huong village, Thang town, Hiep Hoa district granted by Samsung Electronics Vietnam Company Limited (SEV) and Korean Food and Hungry International (KFHI). The people’s committee of Hiep Hoa district will act as owner of the aid package.
