Updated: 13:02, 01/02/2022
President Nguyen Xuan Phuc, has expressed his best wishes to all Vietnamese people, both throughout the country and abroad, at the beginning of the Lunar New Year 2022 – the Year of the Tiger. Following, is the full New Year’s message of the State leader.

“Dear compatriots, comrades and soldiers nationwide,

The sacred moment of New Year’s Eve has arrived, and the Year of the Tiger is returning to our beloved country!

President Nguyen Xuan Phuc extends Lunar New Year greetings on February 1.

On behalf of the Party and State leaders, I would like to cordially send my intimate sentiments and best New Year greetings to all the compatriots, comrades and soldiers throughout the country and to the Vietnamese community abroad. I would also like to extend wishes of peace, friendship, cooperation and sustainable development to international friends and people of foreign countries all over the world.

Recalling the Spring of the Horse in 1942, in the “Independent Vietnam” newspaper, President Ho Chi Minh once wrote:

Chúc toàn quốc ta trong nǎm này,

(Wishing our nation this year,)

Cờ đỏ ngôi sao bay phất phới!

(Red flag flying star!)

Nǎm này là nǎm rất vẻ vang.

(This year is a very glorious year.)

80 years have passed since Uncle Ho’s wishes. Although the history has turned new pages, the qualities moulded from the nation's history, the spirit of solidarity, compassion, perseverance, and the self-sacrifice of our people has never changed.

In 2021, during the most challenging moments, we have witnessed many beautiful images, examples of dedication to the cause and sacrifice for the community of people, from all walks of life. They are doctors, nurses, soldiers and volunteers who did not mind the danger in epidemic hot spots, leaving behind their families, elderly parents and children.

They are the old people who have brought all their savings to support the Covid-19 prevention and control fund; teenagers and children who have drawn beautiful pictures, many beautiful poems, touching letters, expressing their dreams and feelings for the doctors and nurses, as well as their belief in the strength of Vietnam, to overcome challenges caused by the pandemic.

In this moment, there are Vietnamese who are on the front lines against the epidemic; soldiers are maintaining security and order, protecting borders and islands or brothers and sisters in many professions continuing to work hard, unable to fully celebrate Tet with their families.

The Party, State and people appreciate the efforts of working for the responsibility to the community and society. The country will always remember the sacrifices of compatriots, comrades, as well as respect the hearts towards the Fatherland of our compatriots abroad and the support from international friends.

It is these challenges that have further forged our strength, solidarity, will and steadfastness, worthy of the heroic qualities of our ancestors throughout the long and glorious history, through thousands of years of civilisation, building and defending the country.

I wish every Vietnamese family and person a new year of good health, joy, happiness and success.

Thank you very much and happy new year.

Cordial greetings!”
