Provincial leader urges to surmount difficulties, expand lychee consumption market
Reporting the plans for lychee consumption this year, Director of the provincial Department of Industry and Trade (DoIT) Tran Quang Tan said, the province will implement measures to boost promotion for fresh lychee consumption and consumption linkage, focus on harvesting and consuming fresh lychee in the areas with good quality products while classifying the growing areas with low quality fruits to advise the localities to dry lychee instead.

The province is expected to gain 160,000 tonnes of lychee in this crop. Currently, the export market faces many difficulties especially export to China and Japan, thus DoIT recommended 3 scenarios for lychee consumption in 2020.
Scenario 1: In case the negotiation between Vietnam and China ends in good result when agreeing to extent clearance time and export capacity reaching 80 percent compared to 2019, equivalent to 80,000 tonnes of product.
Scenario 2: In the context when export faces difficulties and the export capacity reaches 50 percent compared to 2019, equivalent to 50,000 tonnes of product.
Scenario 3: In case export faces numerous difficulties and export capacity is small when products are mostly consumed in domestic market.

Tran Quang Tan added, in order to effectively promote lychee consumption amid Covid-19 pandemic, DoIT collaborated with some competent agencies of the Ministry of Industry and Trade to contact with the distributor corporations, wholesale markets, enterprises and farm product traders in the province, nationwide and other countries such as Aeon, Central Group, Mega MarKet, Lotte, BigC, Saigon.coop, Vinmart and Happro to ink contracts on lychee consumption.
Especially, this year Bac Giang will hold live conference on lychee consumption with 63 provinces and cities nationwide and 2 destinations in China including Guangxi and Yunnan provinces. This conference will encourage participation of many companies and traders in lychee consumption.
According to La Van Nam, Chairman of the People’s Committee of Luc Ngan district, the district has sought domestic market aiming at the industrial parks and clusters. This potential market remains unexploited.
In his conclusion, PPC permanent Vice Chairman Lai Thanh Son stressed lychee consumption this year will face enormous difficulties due to impact of Covid-19 pandemic. Hence, the provincial authorities and competent agencies need to take greater initiative and work more effectively to achieve expected results.
Lai Thanh Son urged the localities especially Luc Ngan and Tan Yen districts where having largest lychee growing areas to guide farmers to take good care of lychee ensuring quality and check upon the conditions for purchasing, processing and consuming lychee such as ice and styrofoam box production facilities and accommodations.

Luc Ngan district needs to well prepare for exporting the first batch and welcoming visitors to the lychee gardens.
Facing complicated developments of Covid-19 globally, the PPC permanent Vice Chairman Lai Thanh Son ordered good implementation of both duties including lychee consumption and pandemic prevention and control.
Besides, DoIT was urged to promptly make the list of Chinese traders coming Bac Giang to buy lychee to submit the Prime Minister for supporting immigration to Vietnam. The province will also provide policy to partly support Chinese traders undergoing quarantine in the province.
