Rising demand in labor export opens up new opportunities

Updated: 15:26, 24/06/2025

BAC GIANG – In recent years, Bac Giang Province has consistently exceeded its job creation targets, with overseas employment contracts surpassing annual plans by 10–20%. Many workers now hold stable, high-paying jobs in reputable markets abroad, contributing significantly to the local economy.

In the first six months of this year, more than 17,900 new jobs were created across the province, reaching nearly 55% of the annual plan. Of these, over 1,400 people went to work overseas under labor contracts, meeting 64% of this year’s target.

From 2020 to 2024, nearly 24,000 Bac Giang residents worked abroad under labor contracts. Key markets included Japan (30.9%), Taiwan (29.4%) and South Korea (9.7%), with average monthly incomes ranging from 25–30 million VND (1,088 – 1,300 USD).

Authorities report that most workers adhere to the host country’s laws and contract terms, returning home on time after their employment ends.

Bac Giang has emerged as a leading source of overseas workers. Since 2020, local authorities have received 5,000 applications for the Korean EPS programme (Employment Permit System).

More than 800 candidates have already left for Republic of Korea. Among them is Nguyen Trung Kien, born in 2001 in Xuong Lam Commune (Lang Giang District).

After passing the Korean language test in 2022, he was recruited by a manufacturing firm in South Korea, earning 50 million VND per month thanks to his strong mechanical skills and work ethic.

An increasing number of young people now pursue study-abroad programmes that combine education and part-time work. These programmes allow students to gain international qualifications while earning income and securing better job prospects after returning home. Recognizing this trend, Lien Viet GMP Co. Ltd. (Bac Giang City) has expanded into the education sector since 2023.

Nguyen Van Dinh, the company’s director, said over 200 students are expected to go abroad this year, mainly to Taiwan. The all-inclusive cost is about 45 million VND.

From 2020 to 2024, nearly 24,000 workers from Bac Giang Province went abroad for employment under labor contracts. The main destinations included Japan (30.9%), Taiwan (China) (29.4%), and South Korea (9.7%). Average monthly income ranged between 25–30 million VND per worker.

After passing the school interview, students receive language training, free dormitory accommodation, and meals provided at the company while waiting for departure. Upon arrival, schools arrange suitable part-time jobs, limited to 20 hours per week to ensure academic focus.

Though the golden era of labor export has passed, it remains a vital employment solution and income source for many households. Workers today must meet strict language and technical requirements to access reputable markets—but the returns are higher and the working environment is generally favorable.

Tran Van Ha, Deputy Director of the Department of Home Affairs, noted that returning workers with industrial discipline and technical expertise are well-suited for foreign-invested companies.

In the coming months, the province will continue promoting labor export policies, disseminating relevant information, and connecting locals with trustworthy service providers. Authorities also plan to strengthen inspection and enforcement to prevent violations in the overseas labor sector.
