Spreading spirit of poverty escape

Updated: 20:38, 02/11/2019
(BGO) - Although they still face difficulties in life, many households in Bac Giang province have voluntarily applied for escaping poverty. These are beautiful actions, demonstrating the will to rise by internal force and eliminating the thought of relying on State support of each family.

The will to overcome difficulties

The family of Ly Tinh Pau (70 years old) in Min Con village, Tru Huu commune (Luc Ngan district) has been poor for many years. His wife often goes to hospital, while his garden is small and the property in the house is not worth anything.

In 2016, in addition to the State's support, his family was loaned 300 orange trees by Ly Thi Tuoi, head of the village Women's Union. Pau’s family would pay her when the orange was harvested. This year’s crop, he expects to collect 3 tonnes of fruit, with an estimated value of 60 million VND (2,588 USD).

Like Pau, Ly Thi Van (40 years old) in Hop Thanh village (the same commune) recently sent an application for pulling out of the list of poor households. Due to marriage problems, Van lived separately with her husband. Despite her poor health, she still works very hard. Sometimes, she is hired to grow rice and sometimes she buys scraps to earn money to raise her two children.

With the money saved and that borrowed from the bank for social policies, Van has planted a few dozens of orange and lychee trees so her life is less difficult. With the support of communal authorities, mass organizations and relatives, she is currently building a new house of nearly 100sq.m.

According to statistics of the Department of Labor, Invalids and Social Affairs of Luc Ngan district, since 2018, nearly 150 local households have applied for escaping poverty, mainly in the communes of Tru Huu, Tan Moc and Phuong Son.

Truong Van Nam, Vice Chairman of the Luc Ngan district People's Committee, said most of the households asking for removing from the list of poor households have a better life. Before recognizing the households out of poverty, the authorities of the communes and townships and village leaders hold open and democratic meetings. Based on practical conditions of each family, they will make decisions to avoid unsustainable poverty escape.

Creating a new breath of life

In not only Luc Ngan but also many places, although the percentage of ethnic minorities is high and the educational level is not equal, households’ will to rise out of poverty is great. In addition to the current State support mechanisms and policies through programmes and projects, Party committees, authorities, Fatherland Front and mass organizations at all levels have performed well popularization work.

Movements such as raising charity funds, donating to support house construction and repairing; providing seedlings and breeding animals, and exchanging production experience to help poor households have been implemented in a timely manner.

Surveying some extremely difficult communes of Yen The district such as Dong Tien, Canh Nau, Dong Vuong, Tien Thang and Dong Huu, a lot of households have recently applied for escaping poverty even though the difficulties remain.

Nguyen Thi Quy, Vice Chairwoman of the Dong Tien communal People's Committee, said that although Dong Tien is an extremely difficult commune, its poverty rate decreased by 6 percent in 2018 and is expected to drop by 10 percent in 2019 (the poor households currently account for 15.3 percent of the total population ). This year, the commune has 10 households asking for escaping poverty.

Achieving that result, the Party Committee and the People's Committee of the commune have assigned associations, mass organizations and professional officials to coordinate in helping poor households through various forms such as giving loans and supporting workdays to build houses and breeding animals, etc.

On the other hand, they have often made public on the loudspeaker system outstanding persons in economic development and good models for poor households to follow.

However, in order to increase the number of households voluntarily applying for getting out of poverty, it needs more attention, help and sharing of the Party committees, authorities, agencies, and organisations in each locality so that behind every application for escaping poverty are a prosperous and happy life, the belief, will and aspiration to become rich of every family.
