Spring production kicks off in Bac Giang

Updated: 15:51, 04/02/2025

BAC GIANG – While the Lunar New Year (Tet) atmosphere continues to fill the air, many farmers and workers across Bac Giang province have eagerly returned to their fields, construction sites, and factories to resume work. With a shared determination, everyone is working hard, hoping for a prosperous year ahead, bountiful harvests, and successful business operations.

Sowing seeds on the fields

The early days of spring with warm weather and abundant sunshine have provided ideal conditions for farming activities.

Farmers in Hung Thai commune, Hiep Hoa district plant rice for the spring crop.

On the 3rd and 4th days of the lunar new year, the rhythm of work and production was back in full swing.

In the fields, some prepared irrigation systems, others tended to the soil, sowed seeds, or finished up the harvest of winter crops.

Before and during Tet, the irrigation units assigned staff to maintain water pumping to serve the spring crop. Nguyen Xuan Trien, Deputy Director of Nam Song Thuong Irrigation Works Management Co., Ltd., shared that the company operates 33 pumping stations with 334 turbines, ensuring water supply for around 77,000 hectares, including 24,000 hectares of spring rice.

Recognizing that the period before, during, and after Tet is a peak time for irrigation needs, the staff maintained continuous work shifts to ensure water supply for all areas.

For the spring crop this year, the province plans to grow nearly 65,000 hectares of various crops, with approximately 46,000 hectares dedicated to rice, and the remaining for corn, peanuts, sweet potatoes, vegetables, and other crops.

Over 8,000 workers working through Tet

In the early days of the Year of the Snake, while most people were enjoying their Tet holiday and reuniting with their families, thousands of workers in Bac Giang’s industrial zones continued their work.

Workers operate machinery at the Xuong Giang paper mill.

At the Xuong Giang paper mill, owned by Bac Giang Import-Export Joint Stock Company, in Song Khe - Noi Hoang Industrial Park, Bac Giang city, production lines were still operating during the holiday.

Ngo Van Khanh, Chairman and CEO of the company, stated that during Tet, only the sales and administrative departments were off, while the remaining 250 workers on the paper production lines still worked as usual.

Between January 28 and 30 (the first three days of the lunar new year), the company produced 900 tonnes of paper, generating over 21 billion VND (830,000 USD) in revenue. In addition to domestic sales, 40% of its products are exported to the U.S., various Asian countries, and the EU.

According to the Bac Giang Industrial Parks Management Board, during the nine-day holiday, 16 companies across industrial zones such as Dinh Tram, Quang Chau, Viet Han, and Van Trung in Viet Yen district, Hoa Phu in Hiep Hoa district, and Song Khe - Noi Hoang in Bac Giang city registered over 8,000 workers to work through Tet – an increase of over 3,000 workers compared to the previous period.

Some companies with the largest workforce during Tet included Fuyu Precision Technology Co. (Quang Chau Industrial Park) with 4,500 workers, Hana Micron Vina Co. (Van Trung Industrial Park) with 750 workers, and Bac Giang Import-Export Joint Stock Company and Samkawang Vina Co. with 250 workers each.

Those working during Tet were paid in accordance with government regulations, with many companies offering attendance bonuses. This helped boost morale and maintain productivity during the holiday season.

The dedication of both farmers and workers during Tet has played a crucial role in meeting local and company production goals, as well as contributed to the province’s socio-economic development.

he industrial production value (actual) of Bac Giang in January is estimated to reach over 65.9 trillion VND (2.6 billion USD), a 7.4% increase compared to the same period last year. The province's export turnover in January is projected to exceed 2.56 billion USD, marking a 12.3% year-on-year rise, with key markets including China, the Republic of Korea, and Japan.
