Tapping advantages to develop community-based tourism in Luc Ngan

Updated: 09:06, 22/03/2019
(BGO) - Luc Ngan district of Bac Giang province has a large area of fruit trees, many beautiful lakes and dams, diverse and rich customs and culture, which are favorable conditions for the development of community-based tourism.

Initial results

Luc Ngan boasts many beautiful lakes and dams that are attractive to tourists such as Cam Son, Khu Than and Lang Thum. Especially, the district is also famous for a large fruit tree area yielding sweet fruits during all the four seasons. In addition, there are many villas and penthouses of locals, creating a typical residential and ecological landscape of the locality.

Tourists experience Cam Son lake.

In order to tap the above advantages, the district has invested in developing community-based ecotourism models associated with experiencing fruit tree areas.

Last year, the whole district attracted more than 25,000 visitors to community tourism models in communes: Phong Van, Tan Son, Tan Moc and Quy Son, an increase of over 17,000 people compared to 2015. Specifically, in Quy Son commune, hundreds of visitors experienced fruit tree areas, visited Lang Thum lake, and rented villas and penthouses of local people to stay for many days.

Or in Phong Van commune, last year, the communal Youth Union linked with some households in Cau Quyt and Vuong Ngoai villages to grow sunflowers, attracting many tourists. A representative of Phong Van commune said that the community-based tourism model brings significant income to the people.

For example, the households of Duong Van Son and Vi Van Trung in Vuong Ngoai village earned 20 million VND each from growing sunflowers and collecting fees for tourists’ photo-taking in the past year. The commune is guiding households to expand the model and invest in some on-the-spot services for tourists. At present, Luc Ngan has four community tourism sites in Tan Moc, Quy Son, Tan Son and Phong Van communes.

Increasing resources

Community tourism in Luc Ngan initially affirmed its effectiveness, however, the investment is still limited and unmethodical. The biggest barrier is the transport infrastructure and facilities for visitors. In the district, many inter-village roads and axes are yet to be concreted, hindering tourists’ travelling.

A number of communes have advantages for developing community tourism such as Quy Son and Tan Moc but they do not have areas for displaying typical local products and independent accommodations for tourists.

In order to sustainably develop the community-based tourism models, at first, Luc Ngan focuses on mobilizing resources for infrastructure development in fruit tree areas in Tan Moc and Quy Son communes. It is striving to turn community-based tourism into one of the local strengths by 2025.

To solve this, from now to 2025, Luc Ngan district will mobilize resources for infrastructure investment in fruit tree areas in Tan Moc and Quy Son communes.

Specifically, the district selected Hoa Quang village of Tan Moc commune to build a pilot model of community-based tourism in fruit tree area.

With different resources, Luc Ngan will invest nearly 15 billion VND (646,500 USD) in concreting inter-village roads from Hoa Quang to Dong Quyt; building product showrooms, cultural houses, public toilets and a number of auxiliary items such as concrete yard, outdoor stage and shelter for visitors.

Truong Van Nam, Vice Chairman of the district People's Committee, said that in 2019-2020, the locality will provide Gianh Moi and Hoa Quang villages with more than 1 billion VND (43,100 USD) each to build a typical product showroom and a cultural house.

The district is coordinating with the provincial Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism in disseminating some knowledge about community tourism to local people such as reception skills, catering and accommodation services, while instructing communes with community tourism development advantages to encourage households to invest in constructing, renovating and upgrading houses and equipping them with full conveniences, creating optimal conditions for visitors to stay.
