Vietnam finalise squad for 2019 AFF Women’s Championship

Vietnam head coach Mai Duc Chung on August 12 named his 23-player squad for the upcoming 2019 ASEAN Football Federation (AFF) Women’s Championship, to be held in Chonburi, Thailand, from August 15 to 27.

The newly announced list consists of many popular choices, including midfielder Nguyen Thi Tuyet Dung (Ha Nam), defender Pham Thi Tuoi (Ha Nam), Tran Thi Kim Thanh (Ho Chi Minh City), Chuong Thi Kieu (HCM City), Huynh Nhu (HCM City) and Pham Hai Yen (Hanoi).

In addition, three players will be left at home, namely Bui Thi Trang (Hanoi), Dinh Thi Thuy Dung (Vinacomin) and Nguyen Thi My Anh (HCM City).

Mai Duc Chung’s troops had a final training session at the Vietnam Youth Football Training Centre on Monday before departing for Thailand this morning (Aug 13).

At the 2019 AFF Women’s Championship, Vietnam have been drawn in Group B, together with Myanmar, Cambodia and Indonesia, while Group A consists of Thailand, Malaysia, the Philippines, Singapore and Timor Leste.

The participating teams will play in a round robin format, with the top two finishers from each group qualifying for the semifinals.

Ahead of their departure, head coach Mai Duc Chung said that the Vietnamese team have made thorough preparations for the tournament with a recent quality training camp in Japan, affirming that they will maintain top focus in each match to achieve the best results.
