This is the second gold medal for Vietnamese wushu in the history of World Games, after Nguyen Thanh Tung clinched a tai chi gold in 2013. In that year, Vi won a silver medal.

This year's event takes place from July 7 to 17 in Birmingham, Alabama, the U.S., having been delayed one year due to the Covid-19 pandemic. It features 30 sports in 54 disciplines. Athletes from 110 nations will participate in this competition.

World Games is an international multi-sport event that includes sports not contested in the Olympics. The event is hosted every four years, usually one year after the Summer Olympics.
