Vietnamese photographers explore traditional craft villages in Bac Ninh

Updated: 16:02, 20/05/2026

BAC NINH - Vietnamese photographers captured the beauty of Bac Ninh’s traditional craft villages as part of the Northern Region Artistic Photography Camp 2026 organised by the Vietnam Association of Photographic Artists.

On May 17, photographers participating in the event visited Dong Ho folk painting village in Thuan Thanh Ward and Xuan Lai bamboo craft village in Gia Binh Commune to document local cultural heritage and traditional handicrafts.

Photographers document activities at the Dong Ho folk painting exhibition space run by Meritorious Artisan Nguyen Dang Che’s family.

At Dong Ho village, artists explored the history, cultural value and production process behind the centuries-old folk painting tradition.

From woodblock printing techniques and natural colour mixing to painting and finishing, each stage became a rich source of artistic inspiration.

Through their lenses, photographers focused on close-up images of artisans’ hands, working rhythms and the rustic natural colours that define Dong Ho paintings, highlighting the creativity and cultural depth of the traditional craft preserved for generations.

The Vietnamese photographers’ delegation presents photo books to leaders of Bac Ninh Newspaper and Radio-Television.

The delegation later visited Xuan Lai bamboo village, known for its distinctive smoked bamboo technique that gives handicraft products their characteristic dark brown colour.

Photographers documented the traditional bamboo processing and crafting methods, portraying the simple yet enduring beauty of local craft workers in contemporary life.

Many authentic moments of daily life in Bac Ninh’s craft villages were vividly captured, helping preserve and promote traditional cultural values passed down through generations.

During the visit, Bac Ninh Newspaper and Radio-Television hosted exchanges with the photographers and introduced publications and materials on the province’s history, culture and socio-economic achievements.

Everyday working moments of artisans in traditional craft villages are captured through the lenses of the photographers.

The programme also aimed to strengthen cooperation in artistic and press photography while promoting the cultural heritage and image of Bac Ninh through photography.

The Northern Region Artistic Photography Camp 2026 runs from May 15 to May 19, featuring field trips and creative activities in localities known for cultural heritage and traditional craft villages across Vietnam.

Organisers said the event helps promote Vietnam’s tourism potential, cultural heritage and people, while showcasing the unique heritage of the Kinh Bac region to a wider audience.
