VN feature films compete at Golden Kite Awards

Eleven feature films are nominated for Best Feature Film at the 19th annual Golden Kite Awards organised by the Vietnam Cinematography Association. 

The movies most likely to win the awards are Con Giong (A Thunderstorm) directed by Tran Ngoc Phong, and Binh Minh Do (Red Dawn) by Nguyen Thanh Van, which are set in the war and post-war periods.

Award Hopeful: Bình Minh Đỏ (Red Dawn), a movie directed by Nguyễn Thanh Vân, is nominated for Best Feature Film at the 19th annual Golden Kite Awards.

Con Giong, which is adapted from a novel with the same name by late author Le Van Thao, features southern people and soldiers, and the region’s traditional culture and lifestyle.

Meanwhile, Binh Minh Do tells stories of woman soldiers who were chosen to be truck drivers to transfer arms, food and medicines to battlefields during wartime.

Other outstanding nominees for the awards are high-grossing movies of 2022 such as Bay Ngot Ngao (Naked Truth), a directorial debut by female director Dinh Ha Uyen Thu, and Chia Khoa Tram Ty (A Billion Key), a remake of the 2012 Japanese movie Key of Life by director Vo Thanh Hoa.

The film's themes are love and social conflicts.

The organiser received 136 entries, including 14 drama series, 45 documentaries, 10 scientific films, 28 animations, 35 short films and three research works on movie critics.

Most of entries are produced by leading State-owned and private film studios, such as HCM City Television Film Studio, Giai Phong (Liberated) Film Company and Vietnam People's Army Film Studio.

The organiser will give the awards for best productions, directors, actors and actresses.

The Golden Kite Awards ceremony will be held on August 9 in Nha Trang of Khánh Hòa Province

In the framework of the event, the organiser will offer free film screenings from August 1-8 to the public at the city’s cinemas.
