50 hectares of lychee growing area in Bac Giang issued PUC for export to Japan
It aims to establish safe lychee growing areas applying advanced technologies in production, processing, preservation, packaging and sterilization to improve quality of the product meeting conditions for exporting fresh lychee to Japan and other markets.

Thereby establishing the close linkage between production and consumption to export lychee to Japan contributing to improving production value and heightening lychee growers’ income.
To that end, the provincial People’s Committee will collaborate with the Plant Protection Department, the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development and exporters to make profiles and survey the growing areas to issue PUC (production unit code) complying with Japanese market’s requirements. The survey is based on the 18 available PUCs in the area of 218 hectares meeting export requirements to the US and 40 hectares of lychee granted GlobalGAP certification in 2019 in Luc Ngan district and other areas to ensure export volume and surveying to issue PUCs for about 50 hectares with productivity of 300 to 400 tonnes meeting conditions for export to Japan.
It is planned to provide training to the engineering staff, executive committee, cooperatives and farmers about safe lychee production procedures following Japanese standards, Global GAP standards and organic basis while providing guidance on production procedures and disease prevention, list of permitted pesticides and other requirements of Japanese market.
Besides, they will build the sterilization procedure of lychee with methyl bromide, select proper unit and place to implement, provide guidance on harvesting, processing and package procedures to meet the demands of Japanese market.
It is scheduled to conduct researches, apply preservation technology and improve quality of Luc Ngan lychee with Modified Atmosphere Packaging (MAP), Japanese CAS technology and Israeli Juran technology to maintain lychee shape, taste, colour and nutrition and increase its shelf life meeting the standards for export.
The provincial People’s Committee requested the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development to chair and collaborate with the Plant Protection Department, exporters and the People’s Committee of Luc Ngan district to carry out surveys, select and issue PUCs.
Besides, they are required to provide training and information for the producers to implement the safe production procedures following Japanese standards. They should collaborate with the People’s Committee of Luc Ngan district to direct and guide farmers in caring and pest control to produce standardized products for export to Japan and other markets.
The Department of Industry and Trade is required to chair and collaborate with related agencies to organise trade promotion and call for consumption enterprises (at least 2 or 3 companies). In addition, they are requested to organise trade promotion activity in Japan to seek for efficient and prestigious partners to facilitate exporting lychee to Japan and well prepare for the ceremony exporting the first batch of Bac Giang lychee to Japan.
