Army helps people build new-style rural areas

(BGO) - Responding to the movement "The army joins hands to build new-style rural areas", the armed forces of Bac Giang province have implemented many works serving socio-economic development and improving people's lives.

In order for the emulation movement "The army joins hands to build new-style rural areas" to be implemented synchronously, widely and effectively, right after the plan of the Military Region 1 Command and the instruction of the military region’s Political Bureau were issued, the Party Committee and Commander of the provincial Military High Command have disseminated the documents widely and devised plans to realise them.

Accordingly, each district or city military command is assigned to support a commune in building new-style rural areas. Particularly, the provincial Military High Command will help Xuan Huong commune (Lang Giang district) finish its goals in 2019.

In Xuan Huong commune (Lang Giang), since the beginning of the year, the provincial Military High Command has sent 120 officers and soldiers to directly assist the locality in cleaning up the environment, clearing traffic safety corridors and nearly 10 km of canals, and beautifying martyrs cemetery. At the same time, they have helped policy beneficiary families repair houses and presented them with home appliances worth about 30 million VND (1,296 USD) in total.

"The environment is one of the difficult criteria. Therefore, when mobilizing forces to help Xuan Huong commune with new-style rural building, officers and soldiers of the provincial Military High Command have paid attention to ensuring environmental hygiene, thus creating a bright, green, clean and beautiful landscape," said Captain Tran Van Binh, assistant in charge of youth affairs at the provincial Military High Command.

In Dong Phuc commune (Yen Dung district), previously, the irrigation canal section from Co Phap pumping station to Cao Dong dyke slope passing 8 villages often had rubbish, wild plants, grass, water hyacinth and mud that blocked the flow and caused serious pollution.

After surveying and working with local authorities, in July, the military command of Yen Dung district collaborated with Regiment 2, Division 3 (Military Region 1) to send nearly 100 officers and soldiers to join the people in the commune for 15 days to clear the flow and clean the environment.

In addition to irrigation canals, sections of drainage and inner-field canals were also cleaned by soldiers with a total length of nearly 20km. Seeing the soldiers helping the locality, the people were not afraid of hard work to join in.

Since 2014, the provincial Military High Command has mobilized more than 3,000 officers and soldiers in coordination with local authorities and a number of military units stationed in the area to participate in inner-field irrigation, dredging 570 km of canals; repair and build 330 km of rural roads; beautify 250 martyrs cemeteries and monuments; build 8 standardized cultural and community houses.

The armed forces of Lang Giang district coordinate with Division 3 (Military Region 1) and teachers of the Tan Thanh Primary School (Lang Giang district) to clean the school campus.

At the same time, it has supported over 3 billion VND (129,577 USD) for the funds of gratitude, for building houses for comrades, for the poor, and for victims of Agent Orange/dioxin. In addition to assisting the communes in new-style rural building, since the beginning of 2019, when the African swine flu outbreaks, the provincial Military High Command has directed units to send militia forces to directly transport and cull tens of thousands of sick pigs, as well as set up checkpoints and sprinkle powdered lime to sterilize infected areas.

Colonel Nguyen Trong Chung, Deputy Political Commissar of the provincial Military High Command, said that helping the people in new-style rural building is an important task in the mass mobilization work of the provincial armed forces, which is agreed and responded by all officers and soldiers. It helps create a widespread movement in the forces. The completed works have contributed to making the appearance of many localities more beautiful.

In the coming time, the Party Committee and Commander of the provincial Military High Command will continue to improve the quality and effectiveness of the emulation movement "The army joins hands to build new-style rural areas", thereby strengthening the close relationship between the provincial armed forces and the local Party committees and authorities, promoting the great solidarity bloc, and together with the people in the province fulfilling the criteria, contributing to building the province’s defense area more firmly.
