Bac Giang boosts farm produce trademark development towards clean agriculture

(BGO)- The northern province of Bac Giang is endowed with rich land, favourable terrain and climate to develop high-tech agriculture with many kinds of valuable farm produce. As defining it a strength of the local, Bac Giang province has provided a number of policies and schemes to support farmers and accelerate investment attraction in agriculture especially commodity products for export.

Establishing trademark for farm produce to enter international market

With 302,000 hectares for agriculture, taking 77.6 percent of the total land area, Bac Giang has many advantages for agricultural development. So far, Bac Giang has paid due attention to and facilitate trade mark protection.

Currently, Bac Giang has more than 40 farm and handicraft products granted with intellectual property protection such as Yen The hill-grazed chicken, peanut, Phuc Hoa early ripen lychee (Tan Yen district), Yen Dung fragrant rice, custard apple (Luc Nam district), Van liquor, Tang Tien bamboo rattan (Viet Yen district), rice noodle and Ke dry pancake (Bac Giang city).

Some Bac Giang’s farm produce is protected trademarks in both domestic and international markets contributing to enhancing the product values and preventing intellectual property infringement.

For example, Luc Ngan lychee has been granted protection certificate in 8 countries while Chu and Ke rice noodle is protected in 5 countries and Yen The hill-grazed chicken is granted protection certificate in 3 countries.

A number of solutions for trademark development of Bac Giang farm produce

Recently, the People’s Committee of Bac Giang province has launched the project to establish and develop the farm commodity products meeting the provincial standards in the period from 2019 to 2021 valued at nearly 11.6 billion VND (500,800 USD) including some 7 billion VND (302,200 USD) from state budget and the rest of counterfund from the enterprises and cooperatives.

This project is aimed to maintain and develop 4 products of Luc Ngan lychee, Yen The hill-grazed chicken, Ban Ven tea and Chu rice noddle which were qualified with the standard of provincial commodity farm produce while building and developing 4 new products including Luc Ngan orange and pomelo, Luc Nam custard apple, Van liquor and Lang Giang mushroom to meet that standard in the period from 2019 to 2021.

Besides, the project is focused on supporting logo designs, industrial property registration under the national and international codes and standards as well as facilitating packaging, labeling, stamp for origin traceability and trademark promotion.

In order to fulfill the set targets, the province is planned to foster propaganda, implement solutions for financial capital, credit, mobilize socialization and combine with other fund resources for implementation of the related contents.

In addition, the province will strengthen production in which driving agricultural development towards market-based production while maximizing the comparative advantages of the local and region.

Striving for clean and high-tech farm produce

Currently, Bac Giang province tends towards clean and high-tech agricultural production. A number of enterprises and cooperatives have invested in agriculture particularly the pig farm of Truong Thanh Cooperative in Hiep Hoa district and Clean Vegetable Cooperative in Yen Dung district building a 5,000 -square metre greenhouse, piloting 1 hectare of watering system and building an advanced farm produce processing area.

To that end, Luc Ngan district piloted growing organic lychee. The model of organic lychee has been expanded up to 20 hectares. The lychee gardens taking part in this model have been equipped with cameras and digital caring diaries.

In coming time, the province continues developing trademarks for more key farm produce. Hence, the provincial People’s Committee launched the “One commune, one product (OCOP)” programme in the period from 2018 to 2020 with a vision to 2030. Accordingly, the province strives to expand the methods of production and business to produce the traditional products, advantageous and competitive products and services in domestic and international market.

(BGO) – The National Office of  Intellectual Property of Vietnam (under Ministry of Science and Technology) has granted the protection certificate for the collective brand of two farm products in Luc Nam district, Bac Giang province including Kham Lang taro of Agricultural Service Cooperative in Kham Lang commune and Bac Lung sweet potato in Bac Lung Agricultural Service Cooperative.

Wholesaler MM Mega Market Vietnam (MMVN) and CMM Marketing Management Pte. Ltd. Singapore on August 21 inked a cooperation agreement on exporting Vietnamese farm produce to Singapore.
