Bac Giang kicks off communication campaign to care for elderly health

(BGO) – In response to the World Population Day (July 11), the Division of Population and Family Planning in Bac Giang province has launched the communication campaign to care for the elderly health in the province.

The campaign will last till July 15 with several contents such as parading to communicate about the healthcare activities for the older people; diversifying the models of cultural and sport clubs so that the older have places to share, exchange and improve the cultural and spiritual life.

Besides, it encourages to develop the model to care for the elderly health at the community and family as well as the elder nursing centres.

The communication campaign aims at communicating the households to keep the sub-replacement fertility to ensure suitable population scale to the provincial socio-economic growth and reduce the current ageing population, which helps enhance the material and spiritual life to the older.

The province is now home to 270,000 older people, accounting for 15 percent of the total population. The rate of the elderly tends to go up year on year. 70 percent of the elderly living in the rural, mountainous and remote areas do not have social allowance and pension.
